New Jersey upcoming event - questions

Post by StephanAlfa » Sat Jul 06, 2013 1:14 pm

I signed up for NJMP. I have never been there!
A couple of important points and one info request please:
• HOTEL accommodations: What do you recommend in the area?
• TRACK FACILITIES: Does the track have garages or access to electrical connections (for impact tools, compressors, etc.)?

Stefan,

Not "official" answers, but .....

Lightning does not have garages. ( Thunderbolt does) --there is one large garage at Lightning where tech usually done by most clubs.
I am not sure about electrical in paddock, there might be near RV spots. Bathrooms have A/c --which can be nice.

There is a new Fairfield inn,in Millville --heard it is nice. ( and club rates can probably be arranged)
Have stayed at the Country inn by Carlson most of the time.(It looked shabby in the spring)
--Quality inn is inexpensive.

Bring " RED" fuel jugs. NJ has some weird law about only being able to put fuel in red jugs.
And they pump your gas in NJ.

NJ law requires a full face helmet on track

Have fun! ( I will be at Calabogie w/ BMW club)

Keep and eye on the state mandated professional petroleum transfer technicians. I had one fill my fuel jugs with regular after asking for 93. I also have '93' written on my fuel jugs.

New Jersey sucks. I store my fuel in yellow (diesel) jugs because they don't get as hot (and expand) as red jugs in the sun. Had some pumper dude question me last time I was trying to get them filled.

Some other loser fuel pumper on the Turnpike asked me 3 times if I was sure I needed diesel in my truck. Different pumps, truck sounds like a diesel...obviously I know what type of fuel I need! Are the locals really that stupid? Do morons in Escalades frequent the diesel pumps? I hate New Jersey even if their fuel is cheaper.

The Holiday inn Express is relatively new, right off Rt 55 exit 27 (in Vineland NJ), ~6 miles from NJMP. Can't compare w/ other places but I've heard of some dumps. Fwiw, I never had any issues getting fuel jugs filled (there are several stations between the hotel and the track) but I've heard stories of that happening, I also bought fuel at the track, I can't recall how expensive it is, probably more than $3.85/gal but you can drive your race car up to the pumps.

No ac unless you run an extension cord to the tech shed or park back where the RV hookups are... the bathrooms are pretty nice (and air conditioned), maybe hold your classroom sessions in stall #2.

I stayed there last year shortly after it opened, and it is nice. A ShopRite supermarket is available in the adjacent shopping center. The Hampton Inn in Vineland is satisfactory, too.

My recollection is that it was $8/gallon for 93 last year - the track can tell you the current price at 856-327-8000 Option 0. It saves a ½-hour roundtrip into town if you didn't bring enough with you.

The track is open Wednesday night for us. Plan on around 600 PM, can't say for sure if earlier than that.
Electric available in the grass pod area (camper/rv). I will be there and pay for electric.

I still need a place to stay on Friday night. Seems most folks are booking Friday night. Good luck with that after 2 days in 95 degree heat.
