Towing home from Summit
Towing home from Summit
Is anyone planning on towing/driving back to the Boston area Tuesday night? It would be great having some company.

My son, Scott, and I did it once.

Hoping to maybe get 1-1.5 hours of driving north and stop for the night. Too long a drive for sure.

I was thinking similar to Jeff, probably looking to stop somewhere between Harrisburg and Allentown and then drive the rest in the morning.

Last year on the ride home I spent the night at the Hampton Inn in Grantville,PA about 125 miles away from Summit Point, that was all I could take for one day. The hotel was new/clean and parking was well lit in what seemed to be a safe area. I'll be making my stop there on the ride home again.

I'm going to make the stop the Red Roof in Wilkes-Barre PA. It's a little over 3 hours from the track.
Re: Towing home from Summit
I'll take my chances with getting some tools stolen over nodding off while towing.
I try to minimize risk by choosing a hotel where I can park out of view from the street. Sometimes I even cover the car. The way I see it, the most likely scenario is some punk kids spotting on a drive by then coming back thinking they can lift some parts for their Honda.

Be careful pulling out of there if you have a low hitch or trailer wheel. Sadly, got a trailer wedged there last time.Mick wrote:I'm going to make the stop the Red Roof in Wilkes-Barre PA. It's a little over 3 hours from the track.

Oh? I've never been there. Didn't know it was on a hill

Streetview gives you some idea of it:

My trailer hitch is pretty low, and the truck has a long wheelbase, so it is a nasty combination. A tour bus with a similar trailer made it in and out fine. If you've got a high hitch you should be ok.
