NE-SVT at Calabogie August 17, 2013
NE-SVT at Calabogie August 17, 2013
Attention COM members, this is kind of big news.
NE-SVT has secured Calabogie Motorsports Park in Ontario for one day....Saturday, August 17th, 2013 for a full day of open track. This day precedes a two day COMSCC event at the very same place! The events will be registered separately, meaning that you will need to wait for COM to open registration for that event.
We have set our pricing at $210 for the day. You guys know VERY well that the track rental warrants a reg fee that is FAR more expensive than this, and I guarantee you will not find a better deal anywhere in the country for open track format all day.....especially at a track like Calabogie. We've already spent the money. This is an amazing deal, and I hope you take full advantage of it. The event fee will also suffice for your 2013 NE-SVT member dues!
The last time I was there, I racked up more than 500 track miles, and that was just over two days. Three days will be incredible! There could be 35 cars on track and you may not see more than a few during your session. The track is something like 4 miles and 22 turns!!
You may register for the 17th, here: http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/ ... Qw2zGckSp0
Here is a one lap vid I took back in 2010:
Take note: At this price and risk....there will be no refunds, so don't even bother asking.....though you will be able to sell your slot to someone else. We are not capping the number of participants for this event. The intent is to get both NE-SVT and COM members (and whoever else wants to go) three full days at what I think is one of the best tracks around these parts.....without paying a mint for it.
There will be no instructors or students, everyone pays. Drive all day, come and go as you please.
You folks know the deal......Jackasses will be ejected....blah blah

Good deal, I'll be there.
Re: NE-SVT at Calabogie August 17, 2013
This will be a fantastic weekend. The last time NE-SVT went there we had 1.5 days of completely open track, the weather was perfect, the track was wide and traffic was essentially non-existent. NE-SVT followed by COM is going to be unreal!
The actual track specs are: 3.0 miles, 20 turns, 40ft wide and a 2000ft main straight. I found it to be a very rewarding track when you got it right, and there are enough different elements there to keep you on your toes.

So excited for this, already registered as well. Was at the NE-SVT event a 2 years ago, and it was the best open track event I've ever attended (and the first). Add a COM 2-day event after is just a dream come true.
This is a must do event folks[u/], if I could only pick one off the schedule this year this would be it. It's going to be great! I really hope we can get some of the COM regulars to the NE-SVT portion.

Neither - it's open track, where you're permitted to drive whenever you want to.John F wrote:Format similar to COM or like a test day?

"This is an open track event with no separated run groups. There may be a checker shown periodically to give the flaggers a break. There will be a short drivers meeting to go over the details. You may enter or leave the track at any time during the open session. You should have some experience with the typical HPDE format. Passing is initiated with a point by the driver being overtaken in approved passing zones. Please contact us if you are unsure of your qualifications or have additional questions.
"Here is the format:
Saturday August 17, 2013
Track Time - 9am - 12pm + 1pm - 5pm
Open track all day. There will be no official instruction. The event will be capped at approximately 75 cars."

Wow! That makes both events more attractive to both clubs (esp over a weekend) - nicely done Troy.
One thing to consider: cap the $210 fee at some max number (e.g., near your break-even point) so people have an incentive to register early -- especially since its nonrefundable. With a cap, people have an incentive to register AND they have market to sell their slot if they cancel. Once the cap is reached the fee should go up (assuming the cap is reached).

Thanks for the kind words. NE-SVT has been to Calabogie twice before. We paired up with 3 Balls Racing for those. Good group of guys....fast drivers with good equipment and track etiquette to match. We had been trying to get back there with those guys since, but that track is kind of a stretch for them. I think most of their group is from the mid-west.
When I saw COM was booking the track, it seemed like a good opportunity to maximize the time. It is a long haul out there, and three days makes the entire deal much more attractive in my opinion.
Now I just need figure out what I'm going to haul my shitbox out there and back with and I should be all set.

The same weekend is the Calabogie Blues and Ribs Festival. It appears that most people camp at the festival but it could have an impact on lodging availability. It might make for some good evening entertainment though.
