don't laugh, this is not a joke

Post by n1gzd » Fri Jan 04, 2013 5:34 pm

Hi,

I am sure you all have heard Will remind us that "this is an endurance" event. How many of us (well, perhaps some of you anyway) have attended the first event in the spring and were a little surprised at how much work all the loading, tire changes, climbing in and out of the car and racing suit, unloading not to mention the sweat soaking time spent on the track. You might have even told your self that next winter you will go to the health club more so as not to become out of shape while we are all trapped indoors waiting for spring.

Well, now is the time to start training for the next season. You might think that I am being silly mentioning this but you might not be laughing in the spring.

Just a suggestion.......

Rebecca

^Mmmm...that sounds good. Will there be official weigh-ins at every event? I've been trying to lose 20(ok..30) lbs for years to fit into my favorite 35 year old Walter Dyer leather bike jacket..but those deep dark chocolate covered roasted coffee beans and homemade whoopie pies destroy me. Maybe I'll just buy a new jacket... 8)

actually I just discovered that because my new plane is heavier than expected, I may need to loose 12 lbs.

Years ago,I was at the drag strip..and there was a Ford Maverick super stock in the pit area...I couldn't help notice that every single piece of the inner structure of the car had been lightened with a 2" hole saw..it looked like swiss cheese! Then the driver came out of the trailer...he must have weighed at least 350lbs. I guess cutting up the car to save maybe 20lbs was the lesser of evils...

the weight of a racer is very important ! when i was racing motorcycles many other racers would talk about the weight of there bkies and how to make them as light as possible and yet most of them could lose weight them selfs .
last spring my GF told me i was getting a little belly . and i was so i started to go swimming 2 or 3 times a week and eating right . one thing it also does is i used to get tired around 2 or 3 every day but no more . the other thing is i was smoking so i how started smoking the e-cigarettes for about two weeks now . talk about feeling better all around !

not to get off topic but doesn't marks new avatar look good ?

Mark's new avatar does look great

Last year I lost about 20# and I could fit in the formula car much better, the bad news is I found about 14 of the 20 pounds I lost. Time to diet again :(

Mmmm. I spent this weekend at the Mt. Washington Hotel. Breakfast buffet was 60 feet long with custom waffles and omelets made. But I swam two laps.

When is this "off season" that you speak of?

Since Thanksgiving, I've worked at Road Atlanta, Circuit of the Americas, Daytona, and didn't go to Sebring last weekend only because I was already at Daytona. Between now and the first COM event, I am also going back to Daytona, back to CotA, Barber Motorsports park, and depending on scheduling, maybe St. Petersburg and back to Road Atlanta.*

Good pitch! thanks for sharing Rebecca.
I was in Portland< OR for biz and decided to go karting and after the second stint with 3 minbutes to go I was begging to end, totally drained, exhausted and losing serious time each lap. Muscles got all tight and breathing was way off, a sign that I needed to get off my derriere and work out. My diet is fine (I am good about this) but I had an issue with my toe (another story) and cut down my long walks with the dogs and that was the result!
Karting is a great exercise, I suggested to many at COM we should do a "winter endurance" event somewhere (Maine or Boston) to keep in shape. On that note we should bring along a nurse to check our vitals!

KEVIN: sending you a pm on Daytona!

I don't have many yet but here are a few pics:

It is about an even trade with my old one. Compared with old plane: Much larger engine but same size fuel tank and gross weight. Smaller useful load (because plane weighs more with same gross weight. Better engine and fuel flow monitoring. Better audio panel, worse navigation avionics, older gyros. Worse prior airframe maintenance and canopy and windshield not very well installed (some things to restore). Has some unusual modifications. Is faster and climbs better but uses more fuel. Paint scheme not that interesting (compared to the really unusual paint scheme old plane had).

Looks like quite a change: wasn't the old plane a high wing? Is that GPS unit the same as a ground setup? Never thought about using one in a plane..makes sense though. Dan took me for a ride in his Cessna on Christmas eve...we didn't stay up long,as I turned green...I think I overdosed on the Dramamine..
