New Nhra rules for drag racing let 2008 and newer cars not need a cage untill they run faster the. 10.0flat for an unaltered body / factory safety equipment ....
I'm considering adding a turbo or supercharger to the car but would not want to need a cage to compete in com.
If I will require a cage I will just use nitrous for drag racing instead but wanted a check to see how it adds up here

Intercooler and everything else that goes with .... I've never had a turbo car
Water meth
Procharger
Brackets and a bypass and intercoller

The folks who can answer will need more info:
1. What is the car?
2. What class will it be in before the power mods, and after mods? If based on new classing (touring) the points would be important to know.
I see this in the new proposed rules (only discussing Roll Bars, not cages) for Touring Cars:
"Roll bars are required in all Prepared Class cars, cars that have acquired 51 or more Touring Class Modification Assessment Points, cars that have acquired 16 or more Touring Class Engine Modification Assessment Points, and in all convertible and open cars regardless of class."
If you are in a Touring class; I would think adding a turbo or supercharger system could put you over the 16 or more touring class engine mod assessment points, but it really depends on what you do, plus you have to consider your other modifications and tires.
If not in touring, I'm not sure at what point Roll Bars and/or Cages are required.
PS: I think it is crazy the NHRA allows 10 second cars to have stock safety gear. I know if they don't allow them there are alot of street cars/drivers eliminated from competition, especially with newer cars reaching those traps speeds/mph pretty easy. But at those power levels a broken axle, etc. is common, and they are going at least 120 mph through the traps, crazy..

i'm also about 120 lbs over my weight mark and run on street tires. i think i like the current class and plan on sticking with a nitrous system for drag and keeping the car in t90 class
im not going to race as much as i wanted this year anyways i have to pay for a wedding since i just got engaged 2-3 events i def plan on staying for time trials this time though

Adding forced induction, whether it be exhaust driven (turbo) or belt driven ('supercharger') will likely add more than 15 engine mod points to your car, which will require additional safety equipment, including at least a 4-point rollbar. From the two choices you laid out, I'd go with the nitrous and understand that the bottle will have to be out of the car during COM track time. I suppose it is kind of a win-win, as you'll get the extra power for the drag strip, and you certainly don't need any more power for track driving / time trialing and you'll be a lot easier on the equipment (tires, engine...).
Just be careful with the laughing gas.

this is pretty much what i came up with and why i made my decision .... it will be a small dry nitrous shot..... the bottle will not packed for the road course days..... besides reality is im not ready for more power on a road course i need to learn how to drive my car better i still think the car is much more capable than what im doing driving it.....
i have years using nitrous so im good with that part....
