Thompson Speedway in CT

Post by tang-o » Thu Jan 03, 2013 3:18 pm

Does anybody know if the work to the road course at Thompson started? Does anybody know or have an opinion if it would be a track that COM could run at?

Cheers!

The track layout has been making its way around Facebook today.

COM has a test day and 2 days for a practice/time trial there in 2013.

I was there for an Auto-X event I helped organize for the Alfa club and track owner took me thru the "old section" of the track (the part that is still in their side fo the property), nice! should be interesting and challenging.
No need for dirt tires but rather weed wacking accessories would help! :D ... and raise suspension and there are still some nasty potholes in the old pavement ...

I did a site inspection at Thompson for the club in October. While the track will follow one of the original layouts (there were many different layouts during the day) it will have all new pavement (except for the oval portion). The new track will actually be inside of the old pavement giving us much more run-off room. While from the diagrams released it looks like the track incorporates part of the oval, it will actually use the apron of the oval. We have been promised that the transitions from the new pavement to the oval will be much, much better than NHMS.

Thompson had hoped to get approval and get started in Nov/Dec of 2012 with the first use of the track to be in June 2013 (that's why we booked a test day early and then a 2 day event later in the year). Due to a late start, it now looks like a very, very late 2013 opening or it will start the 2014 season.

I know that John Spain had been talking with Jonathan Heonig, the new GM of Thompson so I am confident that we will get some great dates for 2014.

Thank you Bill for the information. Looking forward to it!
Yes that transition at NHMS is interesting with my solid axle - lol - but it sure makes it fun. I still don't have the balls/talent to nail that transition with a fair amount of power put to the rear.

oh and happy new year everybody!

Cheers!

Latest word direct from Thompson folks is................2014.
We need to add an event somewhere if that is the case.

+1

If there's an opening on the Glen's calendar, it would be great if we could run there twice this year.
