2013 Car Classes
If the rule change is approved, what classes are people planning on competing in next year? Right now I fit in between two so I'm trying to plan out where I want to run, based on competition.
I'm between T40 and T50.

Re: 2013 Car Classes
I submitted my Focus specifications to MIT and they should be making a determination in a few weeks... (I factor out to T70 with 3 points to spare on V710s..time to take out a few more lbs ..I don't really need those back doors..)

Re: 2013 Car Classes
I too have been "tinkering" with this and wish there was a faster method ... I got the BMW to T60 but I am not sure if there "room to push to the limit range of T60" .. obviouosly either case means more inve$tment ... unless I have done my math wrong, still some information that required clarification (tires, suspension, chips) and still some issues with model year (and weight). I see my 2001 BMW 330i not listed there and closest is 2006... specs for my year calls for ~3200 lb weight (see below) whereas 2006 is 3400+ lb ...so we are kind of down to finite numbers that could be borderline between classes. Big difference is at T60 I am up against M series and the like. Not that I am "concerned" but if I am really there then what else can be done to get it to the max within T60 and be competitive?
All this of course in dry weather... if it rains, then get out of my way!
SPECS: BMW 330i Sedan
Curb weight, lb. Manual 3285
Displacement, cc 2979
Power @ rpm, hp 225 @ 5900
Torque @ rpm, lb-ft. 214 @ 3500
Wheels Standard Cast alloy, 17 x 7.0 = I have this with Kumhos V710s 225x50x17 i.o. Optional Cast alloy, 17 x 7.5 front / 17 x 8.5 rear (330i Sport Package=just street tire set up)
Everything else 100% bone stock.

Re: 2013 Car Classes
As my car will be configured for 2013, I'm at 53.5 on Nittos, 57.5 on on R6/SM6, and 59.5 on A6/H wets. Hoosiers might be relatively inexpensive to buy in the SM6 and H wet spec Miata size....but they are very expensive in points.

Re: 2013 Car Classes
As the car sits now I am at 52.7 on Nitto/RA1s and 56.7 on SM6s. I am not planning on running A6s next year. Derek, with the lap times you were running on day 1 at NHMS4 this year you should want to be running in T50

If the conditions warrant them I should have enough leeway with points to stay within T50 with the H2Os.TroyV wrote:Are you going to run H-wets?

I could be wrong, but I think H-wets are now an 8 point tire.

Re: 2013 Car Classes
Looks like my doctor was wrong. My added weight is good for me after all.
With heavier springs, slightly better than stock tires, better sway bar, and an extra 70 lbs keeps my 97 Miata in T30 (39.7).
I will replace the adjustable shocks with upgraded non-adjustables, replace the spent 205 proxes RA1s with some new downgraded 195s, and optomize springs, shocks, and sway bars. The car should be similar to last year's performance (probably better) with less cost to operate.

Re: 2013 Car Classes
^ I didn't realize we were using fully loaded racing weight (driver+gear) against the manufacturers listed curb weight,so that actually will put me into T60 with a couple of points to spare.

T80 with the black S2000. The new red S2000 is T70 as it sits, but we'll be making it faster and eventually bump to T80.

Re: 2013 Car Classes
Derek,
I'm in T40 with RA1/NTO1 or SM6, but I am assuming 128 hp and 114 tq for the 1.8l, and -4 for weight. I might dyno lower and get to -5 on weight if I leave the soft top in. Don't think it will bring me down to T30 though.
