So I've looked through existing car classification rules, and found my car meets ST2 rules. The car is a 98 M-Roadster with the S52, with modifications that all currently fit within ST2 rules.
However, there are known issues with the Z3 failing at the rear subframe to chassis welds, which have been addressed through an aftermarket reinforcement that creates a more sturdy connection. How does the use of this impact my classification? The reinforcement welds an additional support bar between chassis and rear subframe that could serve to stiffen the chassis and these changes cannot be done as a bolt-in solution. Any thoughts on how this impacts my class?

Re: Rule Question
Under the 2012 rules, I believe this would land you in Street Touring based on this rule:
"Bolt-on frame stiffeners are allowed. (Examples: strut tower braces, rear subframe braces, front subframe x-braces.)"
If your subframe reinforcement is not a bolt-on piece, it might bump you into Street Prepared...but I think it could be debated based on the intent of the rule, even though a welded piece might give you slightly more chassis rigidity than a bolt-on.
As you may have seen on the forum, there is a rules proposal for 2013 that would replace the existing rules. If that happens, this modification would cost you 1 point, which may or may not have a classing impact depending on the base class and other modifications on your vehicle.

Re: Rule Question
It sounds to me as if this stiffener requires welding, which I believe means it would put you in SP. Such are the current rules.

Re: Rule Question
If that's the case, I'm starting to like the newly proposed rules!
