Best race on TV this Sat

Post by grovefromnh » Thu Oct 04, 2012 2:36 pm

Speed channel at 7pm. Australian V8 Supercars at Bathurst. NARROW 2 lane public road in a park that goes up one side of the mountian ( Mt Panarama), across the top then a downhill straight (sort of) at 180mph+ to a 90 degree left at the bottom. Absolutly the best race going!!!!

Go to YouTube and search "Waltrip Bathurst" for a video of his ride around the track.

All I see is NASCAR qualifying on the schedule:

http://www.speedtv.com/schedule/filter/date/2012-10-6

It looks like this race will actually be broadcast on SPEED on Sunday October 14th at 11pm.

Bathurst 1000 is great stuff. Always tight racing with action and carnage aplenty!

Holden (Chevy) vs Ford at it's greatest, and next year maybe even *gasp* Nissan !

Looks like they have decided to delay the broadcast by a week, rather sad, last year they were showing it live.

SORRY guys!!! I went with the schedule printed in Autoweek. I guess NASCAR qualifing is more important.

I guess more carnage makes a better race. That's what they used to say about NASCAR.

I'd rather no carnage, but at a track like this it is somewhat inevitable. They have to be very quick with the flags else there are multi-car pileups due to the blind corners on the mountain.

Nissan for next year, this will make it a lot better. Years ago they used to have Ford Siera cossworths, mazda rx7, nissan gtr (the old ones), bmw, jaguar and all sorts. It was much better back then as you saw a lot of variation in stratgey based on the cars strenghts.

I totally agree. I remember the days of watching the Cosworths and GT-R's along with BMW's, and Mazda's beat up on the big V8's. They used to race under the international Group A rules so all these cars were welcome. Poor old Holden (Chevy to the Americans) took such a beating that they essentially rewrote the rules completely and came up with a 5.0L class. I think inviting another marquee to the series will be good for competition.

Concerning what makes interesting racing - at least to watch - here are my observations about what's wrong with US racing these days.

NASCAR: Have you noticed that the only events that are not total snooze fests are the road races and the restrictor plate races. We know why people like to watch restrictor plate races (insert sound of crunching metal), but it looks like NASCAR will have to take steps to eliminate even this little bit of manufactured excitement. That leaves the road course events - which are fun and exciting to watch. Maybe NASCAR should take a cue from the Aussies and increase the number of these events on the calendar.

INDY: Great close racing, but limited driver star power, poor event promotion ( what channel is that race on?), and the perception that the cars are F1s poor cousins.

Sports Car Racing: Too many different series, weak/small fields, nonexistent driver start power, ugly cookie-cutter prototypes (at least in the Rolex series).

F1: I'll throw this in even though the US presence is spotty and minimal. I like everything about F1 except for the corporate management and the recent trend toward stupid rules and performance add-ons like DRS and KERS which remind me of childhood games. If you're going to have a series that is oriented toward actual competition as opposed to managed entertainment, then just throw the flag and let em race.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree.
I always saw NASCAR as the WWE of MotorSports, now F1 is leaning in that direction. GP2 is more interesting to me these days.

I've been watching the V8 supercars for a while and it's a great series. BUT, they seem to be looking at the revenue levels of NASCAR and are trying to copy what they are doing. A lot more focus on the pit crews and now they're coming out with the Car Of Tomorrow next year. I hope they don't screw it up with things like unlimited tires and yellow flags for roll bar padding or hot dog wrappers on the course
