Clare,

Very, very nice job! Boy......is this now COM-NESIC? I liked Dave's view which shows the real fears of driving an expensive, heavy, expensive street car on the track and the resulting cheap, light, cheap dedicated track car route. (yes, redundancy was on purpose).

The Foote notes around NHIS were very good to see (although I would have hidden the SCCA line from newbies into 6 myself). I did find it strange that he talked about the line being for STi, WRX and Miatas. I thought the Miata lines in 6 and 11 were far wider. You know.....into the styrofoam in 6 and through the gaping hole of death in the north chicane.

Good shot of Raj. We all know that at every event, he changes wheels/tires, rotors, brake pads and all the studs.

Nice job, it was a pleasant surprise to see the Drift in full bold color in the mail :D

Jack, the creative Miata lines are for those Subaru guys that just couldn't handle the power after changing cars.

Clare,

As a former Drift editor myself ('92, '93, '95 and '96), I am very impressed by the new look. I thought that I had done a lot to improve the quality of the Drift, but you obviously have much more talent for it than I did. (It looks like you have the right tools, too; I had to use @*$#%&* Word.) Apparently the cost of color printing has also dropped in the Digital Age, as I had to stretch the budget (and my layout abilities) to get half-decent B&W pictures in the Drift. I have two, hopefully constructive, comments:
- Don't be afraid to edit the articles for spelling, punctuation and grammar. Work with the author to develop an article that reads well and still gets across the information he or she wishes to impart. Having said that, I know first-hand that it's not easy to get people to submit articles at all, and that time constraints may preclude multiple editorial iterations.
- Maybe this was a conscious design decision, but I had to dig a little to determine that this issue is a publication of COMSCC. It wouldn't hurt to put our logo in there somewhere!

You're doing a great job, Clare! Thanks, and please keep it up!

Thanks for all the great feedback! I've received some very nice emails as well. Constructive criticism is very welcome, I'd like to see this get better.

Live and learn as with most things I think... for future issues I'm going to give myself a little more time to have things resubmitted, and to go over all the articles a few more times. Believe it or not, when I sent it to the printers I thought I had actually gotten to all the typos.

It was not a conscious decision to leave out the COM logo, I'll have to get one from someone that isn't a jaggy jpg (if anyone has one, send it this way pls :)).

keep those articles comin in!
