Novel about racing that doesn't suck...

Anybody else have "The Art of Racing in the Rain" forced upon them? Holy crap, that Garth Stein guy makes Dan Brown seem like Fyodor Dosto-fricking-evsky.

But I recently picked up a book on racing that really speaks to me:
"Lone Racer" by Nicolas Mahler

Very short story..love the graphics..in the end,at least the Lone Racer has a new shiny beer mug!..(my favorite part was the "bank heist") May I suggest "Ultimate Speed Secrets" by Ross Bentley..more of a "how to" than a novel..but it is an excellent read!
