Many thanks to Chris Rich Sr. and Jr. and Team IDP

As some of you saw at Mosport, my formerly dead-nutz reliable STI succumbed to it's first mechanical problem after 30-some tracks days; the oil feed line for the turbo was dumping oil onto the piping-hot uppipe, stranding me 4 miles from the Mosport gate yesterday afternoon.

To add insult to injury, my cell battery was dying, so I had to relay my plight to teh vastly awesome Team IDP, who were back at the paddock wrapping up the day's fun. Prez Teng and Miata Jason searched high and low for an available trailer berth, but alas, the carnage of the weekend had consumed all available trailer space, but for one. The dynamic duo in the silver P-car, Chris and Chris, were 40km east of Mosport on the 401, and they flipped a coin to see if they could help. The coin flipped true, and they turned themselves around, drove back to the track, and loaded up my sickly (but still sexy) STI onto their trailer, as I took the helm of their beautiful 993 Carerra.

We made the long journey back to Boston in just under 10 hours, dodging maniacal trucks, torrential rain, and biblical swarms of suicidal flies. Somehow, I managed to turn an incident into an upgrade, as the Porsche is much nicer to commute in than the Subaru, although I guess the Chris' will want their car back at some point. By the way, Chris Jr. offered to drop my car off at the dealership for me also, which is going way above and beyond the extraordinary effort he and his Dad had already made.

How great is this club, where a couple guys who I've not had the pleasure to spend much time with prior to this weekend, were willing to turn around, at the toss of a coin, and let a completely strange guy drive their sweet race car 533 miles back home?

On top of all that awesome-ness, Mr. Awesome himself, Raj, gave me the use of his BRAND NEW STI to run in the time trial, so that I could at least get a little satisfaction from this trip. Now, being the generous person that I am, I allowed him to run a much faster lap time than I did, but of course, it's only due to my generosity and not his mad tyte skillz. Right.

Thanks to everyone else for putting on a great event as usual, and if anyone has an open trailer they want to let go for cheap, I think it's about time to stop this silly 'drive to the track and race' idea. Oh, and a diesel pickemup truck to go along with it would be great, too.

No problem, Ryan. IDP 4 life, yo! I thought the whole "ditch the trailer on the side of a farm" thing was totally funny :D Now I know my car can tow over 2500lbs at felonious speeds. Only down side - with the trailer hooked up, I lost a drag race to a Miata out of an entrance ramp into the highway :(

Your generosity is much appreciated. I'm sure if you had a few more laps at Mosport, especially in my car, you could have done better than my time.

Ah, you're about to adopt my rule. If I bring a helmet, the car must be on a trailer.

Glad you made it back ok. You do know that Raj takes dirt road short cuts during the TT, don't you? Well, sometimes they aren't shorter, but I think he's required to bend at least one rim or he feels badly.

Suburbans are cheap these days with gas around $3 a gallon.
