Seekonk Speedway Wreck

I went to the speedway last night and this really bad wreck happened at the other end of the track from where I was.

Yikes. I think I would have moved a bit quicker if I was that dude standing at the ambulance entrance.

gnarly, all kinds of rumors flying about that the driver was drinking, that he may have suffered a seizure right before hand, etc....apparently he is going to be fine though he spent the weekend in the hospital with internal bleeding.

I crewed for a friend of mine who raced there for a couple of seasons about 15 years ago, and that place is a bull ring. Wreaks like that are not uncommon and he even had to be taken away in an ambulance at leasts one time. It was a long ride for us, but definely an exciting place to race. Full fields every event, and there were a couple of divisions that only about a third of the peaple showed up would qualify for their feature race.

and do they require seat belts or helmets?

that looks like an enduro.....enduro rules require a working lap belt (OEM fine) and a helmet of pretty much any vintage.....all glass must be removed and let 'em rip.


the track I used to run with has a flag pole race....where any car off the street is run, you need a belt and helmet full glass, etc....in the middle of the front straight is a tractor tire, you need to go around it to complete a lap

Well, he has "When in doubt, straighten out!" working for him, at least. That's something. Especially if you think running a donut is the way to go.

I saw a race at Star where the driver was circling under yellow and hanging out of his car to pull the fender off while driving- to avoid pitting. Made sense at the time.
