I heard about COM at AX events and plan to register for the August event at NHMS. Reading other threads i learned about helmet and harness requirements. What else do i need to know to be ready to pass tech inspection? Also, in SCCA Solo2, my car runs with SSM class. Is this the same for COM? Or does it even matter?
Thanks.
Cris

Read the classing rules closely. You might fit into ST4, but there are subtle differences in the rules from COM vs SCCA. You certainly wouldn't be "Showroom Stock" by COM rules since the two clubs define this term rather differently.

The #1 thing to be concerned with and biggest hurdle for first-timers driving convertibles is that if the car MUST have at minimum a 4-point roll bar. Same goes with some T-tops and such. For what it is worth, a convertible with an optional factory hardtop (S2000, Miata), is still considered an open-top car as those composite roofs do not provide any roll over protection.
If you have a convertible or any other type of "open top" car, you must have proper aftermarket roll over protection. There are zero exceptions!
The #2 thing is passenger safety gear. The same level of protection/security should be offered to the passenger (instructor) and driver. That means if the driver has a race seat and harness, so should the instructor. Likewise, and this should be obvious, but a single roll hoop that protects the driver only (ala 427/replica Cobra) is unacceptable.

If i remember correctly, you will also need arm restraints without a hard top.

Solo 2 SSM is different from road race SSM. Autocross SSM Is a catch all for modified street cars that are 2 door sports cars. You'll most likely fall into one of COM's Street Prepared classes if you run SM or SSM in autocross.
