It varies: there are no actual time guidelines. You will be signed off for a license when your instructor(s) feel you are qualified. It is up to the individual driver to demonstrate they are safe in an on track enviornment to themselves and others, have good car skills, and are willing to follow the rules. In general, most drivers with minimal to no on track time, but good car skills, it is usually in the 3-4 event window.Drivers with more track background (from another club, etc) it can be less.
It's not what you drive, it's how you drive. "Lap times matter"

....and some drivers definitely need more time to "cook".

I'd suggest that you try not to be so quick to go for a license. I can think of more than a few licensed drivers that told me they regretted pushing so hard for a license in the beginning when they could have benefitted from additional instruction to solidify the fundamentals. After you get licensed, it becomes more difficult to get one on one help as most of the instructors are with students.

Grasshopper ... patience ... it depends on the frequency and a series of other factors.
Not sure I mentioned before but at COM even if you have a Formula One "super license" you still must undergo student session in the interest of safety and understanding of the racing format.
It also depends which tracks you have been exposed to. For example at NHMS which is a technically challenged track one can typically get licensed faster than if you are used to Lime Rock for example. The intent is to have you exposed to a few tracks and/or different configurations and thru a few instructors where you can collect valuable information to later make your judgment when driving solo.
Take your time as student and enjoy the wonderful ride! You can still ride solo when cleared at events.
Also once licensed you can always ask for help from instructors.

Since you asked: When I got my COM license in 2000  I already had a few races under my belt (VW division in Brazil) plus raced in WKA (world karting) events here in NE and still took me 4-5 events but noted I was cleared to solo and do TT at every one of them.
