I am hoping to be able to get out to the track a couple of times this year, but can't justify the cost of a new set of tires for the year. So I have been trying to locate some used race tires around. I am having problems finding some used tires. I am looking for (2) 275 40 17's and (2) 315 35 17's in pretty much any race compound. I have been looking for any of these kinds: Hoosier R6's, BFG R1's, Kuhmo V710's, and Nitto NT01's.
I have located some 275 Hoosiers, but cannot locate the 315's used anywhere. The 275's that I found claim to have approx 70% tread remaining, and 4 heat cycles. The asking price for the tires is about 60% of new tire cost. Is this a reasonable price for the tire with 4 heat cycles? Tires were manufactured in 2011. Approx how many heat cycles can you get on Hoosiers before they lose their advantage?
Any of you Corvette guys out there have some used tires that you would sell?
Thanks,
Joel

Re: Questions about Used Hoosier R6's
Joel, while I don't have any massive tires for you, I'm in the same tire buying situation as yourself. I would think that 60% of purchase price is too high for used R6's. NASA forum usually has some decent listings for tires (I've seen a couple for 275's, but nothing for 315/x/17...just on 18" wheels): http://www.nasaforums.com/viewforum.php?f=34 Based on what I've seen, you should probably expect to pay $100-125 for Hoosiers w/ 70% tread...although if you read the other COMSCC thread on the topic, you'll see mixed opinions on used tires: http://comscc.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3782
While I wanted a true "time trial" tire, I'll probably end up with another set of v710's because I came across these (1 heat cycle, $75 each) and probably can't turn down the deal: http://www.nasaforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=57817

He used to sell these for $50 to $100 a tire, but it seems demand is catching up with supply and the price is climbing as a result. It includes shipping at least.

Re: Questions about Used Hoosier R6's
Thanks for all the responses. I did not notice the other thread in regards to used tires...so thanks for letting me know about that. I actually did find the JohnB tires last week and I tried to order some, but I didnt get any response yet. I wish there was a phone number on the site so that I could call them up. I guess I will just keep trying.
Pat: Do you know what the date code is on those tires?
Thanks,

You're better off buying a new set, using the good half of their life, then selling them for 1/2 price.
