Lap timer

Post by R1150R admin » Tue Jul 26, 2005 1:09 pm

I was thinking of getting the "Ultra Lap Timer" (<a href="http://www.plavanracing.com/ultralapind ... or a Hotlap timer, I'm leaning towards the Ultra.. Does anyone have an opinion on these units? any others I should be looking at around this price (<$400)?

Also, should I bother buying the transmitter for these units? Does someone pretty much always have a transmitter set up? I recall seeing a lot of tripods at my first event (Watkins)

Hey,, that unit looks REALLY nice! Much better than the HotLap system. So nice in fact I just ordered one of the complete units so I guess at least at Mt Tremblant you won't need the transmitter. GAry

My friend and I both ended up getting the ultra lap timers. We used them at Mt tremblant and are quite happy with the results. Its operation is totally invisible - you don't even have to turn it on before entering the track - just drive by the transmitter and it turns itself on and starts timing. It also has some pc software for comparative analysis. I definitely recommend it!
The only problem I had with it is that someone else in the club had a ultralap transmitter set up before we got there so we didn't bother to set up ours. Unfortunately I didn't notice that that person took off early, so I missed some lap times towards the end of second day.. oh well!
On a side note, I also bought a g2x. Anyone else have one of these things? What a pita!

Calling out XT Racing users

Throw me a PM so that we can coordinate who's going to set up transmitters.

I want to try out the feature where multiple transmitters will allow us to record split-times.

I dont think I'll be at limerock, but next year I'll be back and have the ultra lap timer. Feel free to ping me (PM) so I remember to coordinate w/you. I'd like to check out that split feature as well.
