Where to stay at Summit Point

Post by imgon » Fri Apr 27, 2012 3:47 pm

Has anyone who has been to SP stayed at any of the local motels/hotels? According to SP's website there are quite a few places. I found a Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn about 20 minutes away that look like they might be clean and safe. There was also a Knights Inn but it not sure what it might be like, way cheaper than the others but if it is clean and safe thats all that really matters. I'd like to go with the cheapest place but have learned from experience there is usually a reason they are so cheap.

I have stayed at the Holiday inn in Martinsburg a lot when going to SP. It is a little further way, but the parking area is well lit, and has room for trailers in the back. Some of the other places closer to the track, like the comfort inn/comfort suites, have sketchier parking areas and are not well lit.

I am told Towns place suites.
Call the hotel directly and ask for the Summit Point BAR rate. Nice place close in a strip mall with places to eat and a Supermarket as well.

Rates are not bad at all (based on my Marriott Reward). It's about 20 minutes from track.

I am planning to camp but if the weather turns I am heading to a hotel for sure.

Troy - do you mean the Hampton Inn in Martinsburg?

Winners will be staying here:

Hampton Inn Martinsburg South-Inwood
4758 Gerrardstown Road, Inwood, West Virginia, USA 25428
Tel: 1-304-229-6677 Fax: 1-304-229-6678

AAA rate is $87 / night. I've stayed there before, it is nice & clean. Waaaaay better than the place we used to stay, the Knights-Inn (across from the horse race track).

No. I mean the Holiday inn, but I have stayed at the Hampton as well and thought it was good too. I just like the parking lot and lighting better at the Holiday inn.

Thanks Will and Troy,
It's always good to know what a place is like, I've stayed at a couple of winners out at Watkins Glen. I ended up getting a room at the Hampton so I can rub elbows with the winners! Hopefully Sam can order up some good weather.

Knight's Inn was a dump when I stayed there 4 years ago for my first SCCA school. Definately SKIP.

+1 on the Holiday Inn in Martinsburg, I've stayed there numerous times, it is a great place to stop on the tow down. Fwiw, I'd be sure to park where my rig was not a temptation to all-you-can-carry midnight shoppers.

I have found the Knights Inn to be an adequate dump. Popular with Commers. And cheap. Bring binoculars. You can see the horse races from the second floor.

I am staying at the Hampton Inn located in Charles Town, 8 miles from the track. Using my Hilton Honors points.
