Whats with Mazda and that smiling grill?

Reminds of the spaceship in the movie Heavy Metal....

"the diminutive sports car is lightening to the point where it may become too feathery." I don't think so,at 2200lbs. Nice to see it losing weight, though.
"Under the hood will be a 1.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder" Hmm..not sure I like that..same power from less cc's usually means shorter life...especially pulling around over 2200lbs.
"the $25,000 range." Good!
Not sure about the looks..but at least it isn't scary. :D :sunny:

I like the looks. I'll be surprised if the grill remains unchanged for production though. It'll probably get a bumper beam across the front to meet insurance requirements for low speed impact. ..and front plate mounting. Looks like a US pate would hang too low if mounted where they have the euro plate.

I think the body looks too busy..a lot of creases and wrinkles. One of the design features I have always liked about all the Miatas so far has been their simple form.Really not digging the "jowls" out front.I'd like to see the 2.0L engine kept as an option. A 1.3L..hmm..my bikes motor is bigger. I wonder if they will keep the folding hardtop. Probably not at 2200lbs. At least Mazda has not killed it off like Honda did the S2000..

I hope the BRZ is awesome, and that the new Miata is just as good if not better.

I kind of like the looks of both illustrations, but "Brenda Priddy & Company" has been in the business of illustrating unveiled new models for decades, and they've never ever been anywhere close to accurate on any of the previous Miata re-models, at least not in any of the illustrations I've seen over the years.

The top 1/2 of the white car illustration is the current model (windshield, interior, hood line) and the wheels are a photoshop of the current model MX5 Miata. The front end is pure speculation, as is the poorly-done side.

Whatever it is, bring it on! Glad to know that Mazda sees this as an important car. They've done a reasonably good job in past revisions. Given their renewed focus on (light) weight, and their ability to make all the past versions of Miatas fun-to-drive, I hope they finally give the car a better power-to-weight ratio than past generations.

If they don't, I hope Subaru or someone else does.

Any idea if this new Miata with its smaller displacement and lighter chassis will still be an SSB car? I hear the BRZ/FR-S fit in SSA.

If figures are 167hp and 2200 lbs in the final form, it will be around 13.3 lbs/hp which, I think (Nate will correct if I am wrong) it will sit in SSA. That would put it in ST2 if cold air intake added, or SPB if so modified.
Remember Troy, engine size doesn't matter, torque doesn't matter, FWD, RWD, AWD don't matter, CG, height, weight, etc. don't matter. Classing is based souly on power to weight

Correction it would be SPC if modified. All N/A 4-cylinders are SPC unless otherwise specified.

Sorry was getting confused about which car we were talking about :)

Yeah if the MX5 gets the 1.3L Turbo it would be SPB. I still don't think they are going to go turbo though, we'll see.
