How strict is the "same seat same harness" rule?

Thanks for the clarification, guys. I will definitely have the same belts at the least.

(To clarify, this means I will also get a seat with the proper setup, it just might be a different brand. I wasn't clear about that.)

A couple of points. First, just to clarify, BMW requires equivalent "safety equipment", not seats. In the case of your set-up, using the stock seat with a 6-point harness (no pass-though holes) is a big no-no from a safety standpoint beacuse the position of the sub straps could potentially allow submarining. So while the harnesses may be equivalent, the safety aspect, because of the seat set-up is not.
