Re: 24 Hr Race at Daytona
I watched bits and pieces, but I can't say I was impressed - with either the cars or the venue.
Venue: With the exception of dear old NHMS , I don't approve of road courses that are afterthoughts built on ovals. I remember when the very first Daytona Continental was run, I felt it was a secrilege to run a world championship event on this track after being used to classic tracks like Le Mans, Spa, Targa Florio, and - yes - even Sebring.
Cars: I have to admit that the new Rolex prototypes (can you say "Riley/whatever"?) are better looking than the old ones - but that's not saying much. I know I'm a grouch, but I can't get excited about a spec series like this. Remember when you could watch Ferrari 512s racing aginst Porsche 917s? Or even better, Ferrari P4s racing against Matras, Alfas, Porsches. Or even better still, Ferrari 250 TRs racing against Maserati 450s, Jaguars and Astons.
OK, I'll shut up now before I get started comparing Moss, Hawthorne, and Behra with today's crop of rich dentists

Re: 24 Hr Race at Daytona
I watched a good hunk of the SPEED coverage. Thought the race it self, and the TV coverage were great.
Glad to see the DP's get a well-deserved make-over. The Gen III's might not be super-exotic as a technical platform, but the body changes have make them look sexy.
And the racing is close.
Also great to see all those new GT cars. Need a couple more Vettes and Mustangs!

I forgot to mention that the GT class was fun to watch. It's nice to be able to identify different makes and root for yours.

Re: 24 Hr Race at Daytona
I had the Speed coverage on my laptop most of both days and watched probably half of it. I liked it even though Speed cannot get out of Nascar mode. I too would have preferred it a a real road course. The Rolex series is good, almost like a mini ALMS. What I really miss is the aussie Super V8's. I've been watching them on u-tube and justin tv and they are probably the best racing around, but Big Pond squashes anyone who tries to stream it.

Re: 24 Hr Race at Daytona
The V8 Supercars have had all their races broadcast on SPEED all last fall. The Bathurst 1000 race had SPEED commentators. Darrill Waltrip strapped into the passenger seat of a Supercar and a in-car camera show his reaction to a flying lap of the course. His voice kept getting higher and higher with his eyes bugging out the whole time. When he got out, he almost fell because of his legs shaking so much from the rush. VERY funny!!

That's a great video, I happened to catch it online the other day.grovefromnh wrote:The V8 Supercars have had all their races broadcast on SPEED all last fall. His reaction is priceless.
Re: 24 Hr Race at Daytona
Trouble was, it was compressed footage..... two 1 1/2 races shown in an hour.grovefromnh wrote:The V8 Supercars have had all their races broadcast on SPEED all last fall. John you can download the full races with Australian commentary online if you are tech savvy. There is a website that is dedicated to sharing of motorsport related content. I'll send you a link if interested.

Re: 24 Hr Race at Daytona
Thanks Chris. I've seen the torrent sites and aren't real comfortable with them. There was a guy in New Zealand that was posting full races on u-tube but got squashed. I watched the end of the season on Justin tv, which was good because they would store it for awhile.Chrispy wrote:John you can download the full races with Australian commentary online if you are tech savvy.
