BRZ / GT86

Post by Mick » Thu Feb 09, 2012 11:01 am

Been talking to Troy about this platform. It sounds like it will make a great track car.
- RWD
- 2600 LBS
- 200hp N/A 4cyl that revs to 7500rpm
Should be reasonably priced. What's not to like?

All I can say is too bad they are selling it under the hipster Scion brand as this guarantees that we will see some very ugly modified versions of this car.

The car itself I think it great. The problem I think will be that the springs rates will be super soft and so people that want to run it in SS with race tires will have issues. SS on street performance tires will probably be fine though.

The specs put it at same power but 200 lbs lighter than a Civic Si coupe (plus the drive wheels are in the right place) and 600 lbs lighter than the base Genesis coupe.

I guess the question remains, will the car sell as a mass market vehicle (like the Civic), or will it only sell as a specialty vehicle like the Miata? It has back seats (kind of) so it is more utilitarian than a Miata, but I think up here in the snow belt people have become afraid of RWD because they have been told that RWD+Snow = fiery crash and death. Obviously this isn't true but that seems to be the uninformed perception.

The test drives that I've read on this car ,and the Subie varient, are very positive for good handling.

I'm real excited about it as well. Have owned many Subaru's and a Scion too, had good luck with both. - Paul G.
