I have towed 14k with a lifted 1/2 ton the truck can take it.
You have a Miata right, so even if the trailer scales 4k and that is likely heavy ,you can have a bunch of stuff before you get to 10k your 2500 is most likely rated to haul about 10k. So i would not see any issues.
Use an equlizer hitch it is a huge difference than with out.

Bid your max and if it's not enough, move on... :sunny: Some of my best deals have come off Ebay in this manner..

Is it a good idea to pay extra for a torsion suspension (instead of spring) or will I not notice the difference?

Most car trailers today use the torsion.Less moving parts, very dependable and durable.
I would still consider the lightest trailer possible for your immediate needs,as extra weight will hurt acceleration and mileage.
It's nice to have more room...but one must draw the line somewhere..

The latest issue of Grassroots Motorsports has an informative article about towing & acquiring a trailer that you might find useful. It's title is Tow to Tow.
