I've had quite a few of my proposals refused. In various cases, I've come back with a rewording and had them accepted. Other folks can say the same. The process is imperfect, but it rewards persistence and persuasiveness.In all classes, interior panels, trim, and carpets may be modified or removed to the extent required to accommodate roll bars, roll cages, or other safety equipment.

Troy, we changed that rule at the most recent meeting:

Who determines the extent required? To me the extent required is complete removal.

Scrutineers determine the extent required.
This is not a new problem. Plenty of people have put bars and cages in SS and ST cars without running afoul of the byzantine COMSCC legal bureaucracy. Few, to my knowledge, have crashed as a result of floppy carpets resulting from over-zealous application of the rules.
You're a smart guy - figure something out.

It doesn't matter if it comes with a VIN and a letter of authenticity signed by the Pope. It's still a kit car and should be classes in SP.breakaway500 wrote:The Atom500 V-8 actually only makes 375bhp. Most of the Atom HP figures are hype...

If the Pope were on our BoD, his vote would count.
Hmm, maybe we should write him in on our forthcoming COMSCC election ballots?

Your Quote,Greg;
"if the car doesn't come with a 17-character VIN from the factory...it's a kit car and should be classed in one of the SP classes."
Have you ever considered running for political office??...
The Ariel Atom does not come in a "do-it-yourself" kit form,and never has. They come fully assembled to the end user.(with a certificate of origin)
The "kit" nomenclature is used in descriptions so owners who live in states with draconian registration rules can register their cars.
Why all the fuss,Greg..planning on running something in SSU class?

You should run for the Board. There were no new candidates this year.TroyV wrote:Not trying to start a fight here..
I submit this is one of the times the BOD got it wrong, but I still plan to leave my carpet in. For now.

Re: Rules proposals online
I think many of the board members did, or still do, run in ST. They've had to deal with it and found it wasn't a big deal, any excuse to remove carpet fell on deaf ears.TroyV wrote: Based on what I observed at the meeting, the proposal was shot down not based on the merit of the rule itself, but swept under the more stereotypical "too much rules creep" carpet. (pun intended).
I think there is also the thought of keeping some differences between ST and SP.

The VIN quote came from the AA website. Not me.breakaway500 wrote:Your Quote,Greg;

I'm just trying to help out the AA owners. I think they'd have a better chance in SPB against my BMW than they would in SSU against this
BTW Mark. I almost forgot. This is also on the Ariel Atom website.
Q - Can I Purchase the Ariel Atom 3 as a Kit Car?
A - A 'Roller Kit' option is available from TMI.

Derek -
There is a lot of support (in principle) for a NASA-type points-based classification system. Last year we even started a committee to work on it. Unfortunately there didn't seem to be enough motivation and/or time available to follow through with a complete proposal.

Nate, thanks for the response. I'm sure it would take some commitment and time to get it done. If another committee was put together I would definitely be willing to help out in any way I could.
