More head room in a Miata???

Post by betelgeuse » Thu Dec 01, 2011 7:17 pm

I ordered a seat mount from Arizen Racing Sports and somehow we got on the topic of Miatas'. He said he's working on a seat/mount/slider that will give a lot more head room. I told him I knew a lot of Miata guys and to send me the link and I'd pass it on. Here ya go. http://www.arizenracingsports.com/Miata.htm

Using a straight up fiberglass shell is a great way to end up with multiple macerations and broken bones. As you and your miata 45 degree slide into a barrier, your body lifts up and snaps off the side of the seat leaving a jagged edge. As you come back down the jagged edge of the fiberglass tears through your leg like a knife. And then you damn near bleed to death before someone can get to you. Spend a few more dollars and use carbon/kevlar and epoxy. Or you could just buy an FIA seat, remove the padding and be about where this seat puts you. Hope nobody gets hurt in this guys quest for income.

This guy called me wanting a Miata to use for mock up (he's in CT). After talking with him, I suggested fiberglass was not the way to go. He didn't want to hear it. Said it would be for street and autox. This made no sense seeing track is where the broomstick test applies. I wanted nothing to do with it. Get an FIA seat.

i have two custom made seats that OMP built for me they are FIA approved and made out of fiberglass . it's not realy the fiberglass that makes the seat unsafe it's how the mounting of it is that makes it unsafe . my seats have a aluminum frame to them and were the seat mounts to the seat base /floor mounts that is also part of the aluminum framing to the seat . there is also aluminum cross bracing for the seat back bracing to the roll cage .
i am how ever not seeing any thing like that with the seats for this miata .
