Correction:

Run the car hard in SSC and enjoy it. Stock Miatas are a ton of fun and are considerably cheaper than some of today's competitive ST4 Miatas.
Keep the car street-legal and fun to drive on the street. There are many benefits there.


On Edit: Regarding Will's last two sentences.... I absolutely abhore driving my Miata on the street... I have tall side wall all season tires for when the car is not going to the track or ax.. The tall side walls make the car semi bearable to drive. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure my kidneys would have long since been knocked out.

Geezo..I have 750lb frt springs and 550lb rear springs in my Miata and find the street ride fine,even with the floor mounted Spec seats,and that is on the 215/40/17" stock low pro tires. Maybe the country roads out here are smoother than the cities... :lol: ..or it could be the old adage.."no brian,no pain... 8) :sunny: A stock Miata is fun..but a modified one is much more fun. (not always faster,though... :wink: )

Rebecca,

I have a bucket load of parts for you that are extra from our 2 Miata builds. i would LOVE to see them go to a good home.

I have shocks, springs, the Hard Dog roll bar and backing plates, brand new Silicon radiator hoses, a spare radiator, new braided brake lines, and more.

PM me, we should talk about how to get you competitive for not a lot of money, and get this stuff out of my garage! We'll get you into SSC, which REALLY needs a larger field, done up right, safe and ready to have fun in the spring.

Oh, get rid of the wheels. Tomorrow. I like the Kosei K1, Jeff W and a few others like a different brand, and D-Force is great.

This from the guy that never adjusts his shocks!

Springs are relatively irrelevant to comfort in a Miata, at least that is what I found. As long as your shocks are strong enough to control the motion of the spring, and set properly to do so, stiff springs shouldn't cause an difficult ride.

Another thing is the seat, which if you think about it, is part of the suspension your body feels. Stock seat, OK. Aluminum seat, ouch.

Rebecca; it really is important to think about the rules and classes if you plan to try to be competitive here. I figured I could run SSC with my car, when I purchased it my only quick modification was a set of 15x7 rims with 205/50/R15 street performance tires. Per SCC rules: "Any type wheel may be used provided wheel size (width and diameter) remain stock". My car is a '91 and were never available with 15" rims.

Now, in 1995 some miata's (M-edition) were available with 15" rims (but only 6.5" wide I think), and I'm not sure how the rules work with "as delivered". This is the definition is:

"“As delivered configuration” is defined as having been available from the factory for that model and year, or having identical form, fit and function
to the factory component. Options for a particular model of vehicle may be installed or removed in their entirety. This definition
applies whether or not a performance gain is derived from a particular modification."

My suggestion if you want to run SCC, keep the 14s and/or do alot more research and ask questions of the folks who enforce the rules before buying any items (other than safety items). Otherwise you can be in St4 rather quickly and not realize it. - Paul G.

As has been said,if you plan on being competitive to win,you must build to class rules. :twisted:

Otherwise,you will just be wasting your time...flying around out on track...pointlessly....8) :sunny:

By the way,Rebecca,I think you are a shoe-in for the Sweedish Cup this year.. :D

Good luck with the Miata Rebecca. I have nothing to add to the good advise you've got, except add real oil pressure and water temp gauges, and especially an oil pressure warning light - which I will now have :evil:

Take the advise Will gave me (2 cars ago) buy something all set up. Lot's cheaper and you can concentrate on your driving.

wow, and I thought I was the only one who caved in between events. Yep, also now a miata owner. It's been to the track before so it's semi-sorted. My main issue now is the seat. I'm 6'2" and barely fit.
