HAN's qustion
so this season i started using my HANs . i have 3 inch shoulder belts . i know with the hans they should be 2 inch belts . i moved the mounting points for the belts on to were they should by the hans tech sheet . the side of the belts stay in side the lip that is on the hans its self that holds the belts in place . other than the extra inch of belt digging into my neck from time to time should i get a set of 2 inch shoulder belts . how unsafe is it with the 3 inch belts ?

I've had both 2" and 3" belts, both work okay w/ the HANS but the 2" belts are specifically intended for the HANS since they obviously don't distribute loads as well. The main issue w/ the HANS is that it only works if your harness straps remain secure, if they loosen and/or slip off the yoke the HANS is basically useless.
During longer sessions I have to tighten my shoulder harnesses to keep them snug, with 3" belts I think this is even more of an issue since they don't fit entirely within the yoke and thus can slip off more easily. My Schroth 2" belts don't seem to stretch quite as much as my Simpson 3" belts, I suspect it has to do with the webbing material vs the width of the straps. YMMV.

I've never had any issues with my Schroth 2" belts loosening over my HANS while driving or crashing.

my 3 inch shoulder belts don't loosen . they seam to stay put once i tighten them down on the hans . but it got me thinking would the belts slip off to the inside of the hans because its an extra inch wider . i just got the belts new this spring but should i get 2 inch shoulder belts ?

I'd be worried about 3" belts slipping off towards the OUTSIDE during a frontal impact. I would go 2" since that's what the HANS was designed to work with.

my concern is it just slipping off . i just checked the g force web page they don't seem to offer just the shoulder belts . for that matter the only 2" shoulder belts i can see they offer are the g force jr. kids belts .

I've got the http://www.hmsmotorsport.com/store/schr ... i/profi-ii (2" hip belts, plus the 3"/2" shoulder belts) in my miata and in our lemons car. Very comfortable and easy to use, and a good fit with the HANS.
Schroth has this to say about the benefit of 2" hip belts:
The main premise behind the 2" lap belt is one of added safety. A 2" belt rides within the crest of the human pelvis where a 3" belt would rest on the edges. This allows you to get the belt up to an inch and a half tighter. That means the lap belt will be working earlier in the accident event because it gets loaded faster. It's also more comfortable and easier to adjust because there's less friction through the adjuster.

i do like the schroth belts . i was given a set from the rep that sponsored team o'neil's 4WD rally golf . o'neal the P.O.S. tryed to charge me for a gift that some one else gave me . then i was given alot of things from VW north america and he tryed to take them from me before i could get them home .the clothes were not even his size . i never worked for or knew a bigger P.O.S. than o'neil !!!! any way i never put a price on what will or could save my life . i will need a 5 point belt there is no place for me to attach a 6 point system . the seat in the diasio is the floor and the fire wall . i think i will also do the 3" lap belt . the way the seating position is the 3" belt works good .

I use the Schroth 2" but my understanding is that the 3" are acceptable and I used to use them. More important is the mounting points of the belts behind the Hans. They must not be too far apart or the belts can slip right off your shoulder. I had to buy a steel after marked adapter because the Van Diemen stock mounting from SCCA did not meet Hans spec.

over the winter when i was rebuilding the car i moved the mounts in to were hans stated they should be . i was reading up on what jeff was saying about the 2" lap belts . i don't know if they would be as safe as the 3" lap belts because i can only use one sub belt ( a 5 point system ).

My Autopower 3" belts adjust more easily than the Schroth, and they held the hans in place in a side, frontal and inverted impact scenario. Also held me upside down perfectly fime for several minutes.
