Lime Rock Accepts Com License
Lime Rock Accepts Com License
I went to open track today at Lime Rock. In the past they would not take a Com License to do open track, but the new plastic license says "competition license" not" time trial license " like the old paper one, so they accept it for open track
The next open muffler practice track day is Aug. 30th. Be careful if you go. I was doing pretty good times for just learning to drive my Formula Atlantic (55-57 second laps) yet I got passed by a Formula 5000 like I was standing still I think he was turning 46-47 second laps. I later passed him several time as he was broken down at the beginning of No Name Straight I was also passed by a couple of other Formula Atlantic's that were doing 50 second laps. Maybe with a little practice I too can do a 50 second lap

^ LOL! 1:30 lap times? The car would top out in 5th at 3500rpms...
Re: Lime Rock Accepts Com License
Sounds good.
Many of the tracks we visit treat us more like the SCCA than an HPDE club. It is nice to know that they extend that courtesy to our members, even outside of our events.
Too bad Lime Rock's new business model doesn't fit with ours. It would be too expensive to run a 2-day COM event there. Love it or hate it, Lime Rock is a historic track and local draw. i'm not a huge fan, but have had fun there, and miss running there with COM.

Maybe we can do a unofficial *as in not competing for points" one day track event there (licensed only so all will pay).
Thoughts?

This year was my first time there. Won't be the last..!
It's not what you drive, it's how you drive. "Lap times matter"
Re: Lime Rock Accepts Com License
The next open track at Lime Rock is the same day as our New Hampshire event But they have their last unmuffled open track afternoon on Tuesday September 27. I hope to attend it with the Chevron . Maybe we can get a whole group of COM members and have fun afternoon. The track is so much nicer since they repaved it, also a little faster. Just remember this is open track with open passing. There are run groups-- open wheel, small bore and large bore, sometimes if a race is coming up they may also have other run groups for that race (like Ferrari Challenge group)

Re: Lime Rock Accepts Com License
Hard to believe that they changed their tune .... called them for a couple yrs straight about running open track days and was told pretty imfactically NO .... maybe it is as simple as a change to the wording of our liscese from TT to Cometition, still haven't looked to see what mine says .... maybe they knew you were coming or you had the right company ? .... anyway you certainly peaked Dad's interest, guess I may actually have to look into it all over again .... what was the overall cost ? was it a full day ?
Re: Lime Rock Accepts Com License
Hi Pat;
I called Lime Rock before I went ,instead of just showing up, because I had heard they would not accept a COM license. The fellow I spoke to (Mike) said he thought they would accept a Com license and they would accept any competition license. The new Com licenses say "competition license" so I went. It costs $250 if you sign up ahead of time or $275 at the gate. This is for the afternoon (starts at 1:00pm). So I signed in at the gate house was directed to the ticket booth where the fellow took my money and asked for some kind of license. I gave him the Com one , there was no problem and not a word said about the license. There was no tech inspection, they didn't even check to see if I had arm restraints or a fire bottle (which was out of the car getting recharged). All the flag stations were maned and the paddock was full of giant tractor trailer rigs as the Ferrari Challenge was the following days. It was a great learning experience as there were several other Formula Atlantic cars like mine. It really helped being able to be on track with them and see how fast the cars could do the corners. This was the first time for me to drive the car with the motor running properly (not starving for fuel as the foam in the fuel cell was breaking down). I had a great time even though my last session of the day was rained out.
ps. I'm on vacation this week, went to diner at your Mom and Dad's cape house Wednesday night.

Re: Lime Rock Accepts Com License
Yea I know .... I had talked to Dad:
" .... anyway you certainly peaked Dad's interest, guess I may actually have to look into it all over again .... what was the overall cost ? was it a full day ? " ... will certainly have to keep it in mind, it was always a fun track, just never liked the "Club" aspect as it just kinda killed the access for the little folks .... will chat more at the next NHMS :!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
