The latest rumor I heard about Palmer last weekend is that the NER is getting tired of paying the town of Palmer $6K/month and may decide to shelve the project soon.

What are they paying $6k a month for?

Beats me. Rights to the land or something. Basically the town is getting this monthly payment for doing nothing, so obviously they're trying to prolong the permitting process and whatever else is still in contention. In the end, finding investment capital is the problem but the $6K bleeding per month is getting frowned upon by the region when it could be put to much better use for something else.

Rights to the land? Hmm..I thought the land had already been purchased etc. by NER and partners, and they were only awaiting approval from various town boards etc. Maybe it's bribe money... It sure would be nice to have that track so close by! :D

monthly payments go to the landowner for the option rights. Landowner pays taxes.

That seems like a lot of "option" money..wow. How high can the tax bill be on a few hundred acres of vacant land? I'm sure its not any where near $72k/year. I guess that's the price of doing business in Ma... Maybe I should pave my 1/2 mile,12 turn field track... http://maps.google.com/maps?q=500+Ware+ ... 9&t=h&z=18
