Relay Rally at July NHMS Event
Whooppee! Last night the Board approved a special event to be held from 5 to 7:30 PM, after the school day on Saturday. The Board decided it will be no extra charge for people registered for the day, partly because the Club is hesitant as t whether we can pull it off smoothly.
So what is a Relay Rally? A competitive team event last run by the club in the early nineties. Sam Webster and I are the only Board members to have participated in one and our memories are fading fast. The idea is that (roughly) five teams of licensed or signed-off drivers form to compete in a sequential race where each member of a team runs (roughly) five laps at speed and when a member comes in pit-in, the next member of his team is flagged out of pit-out. The sum of each team's time trial times is used to handicap the initial start of each team. The first team to have all drivers finish their laps wins. Unlike a Time Trial, there is passing, but only in designated passing areas and only with a Point-by. Point-bys must be given to someone on your but or you will be black flagged and penalized. If 50 drivers enter to form five teams of ten then the event would take an hour and fifteen minutes. If all drivers turn their time trial times then all five teams will approach the finish at the same time.
A small taste of racing.

Woohoo! The last time we held a Relay Rally was in June 1994, the year that I was president of the club and the first year we ran at Mt. Tremblant. I was on the winning team in that event, and you can bet I'll do my best to get into this one! Thanks, BOD!

This sounds like a lot of fun. Do teams need to have a certain number of cars from each class or is there some sort of pax system?

i ran in the first one put on by Dick Harding in the 80s on the Bryar track. GREAT fun as it ran late and the last couple of groups had to use their headlights.

The teams can be totally mixed as the starting time for each team will be handicapped according to the total time trial times of all team members.Dtangard wrote:This sounds like a lot of fun. Do teams need to have a certain number of cars from each class or is there some sort of pax system?
There is a rough draft of rules. Three of us are working out the details. Stay tuned.

Sounds great! When compiling the rules, don't forget to include the "No Whining" clause.

I like this.
Charge your camcorder batteries...could make for a nice video if we get enough contributions.
