NHMS May 30-31 Event

Post by dleb » Tue Mar 22, 2011 6:54 pm

My apologies if I missed this on the website; can anyone give me a description of the format? I'm thinking; May 30th, 4 (5?) track sessions of 20 minutes, 30 minutes? Then on the may 31st TT day, I see 3 times for previous events, does this mean you get 3 sessions of maybe 2-3 laps, so very limited track time on the TT day?

Any more detailed explanation would be appreciated.

Many thanks
David

The format for most events usually goes like this. It should be the same for the 5/30 - 5/31 Event.

Day 1: 4 Sessions of ~25 minutes spread across the day.
Day 2: 2 Sessions of ~25 minutes in the morning. 3 Lap Time Trial in the Afternoon (If you are signed off). Open track until closing after TT time permitting.

Fabulous, thank you. So it seems like there is a potential for more track time at the end of the day, how often does this actually happen? I'm a beginner so very focused on seat time. Also, to confirm, the TT just one session of 3 timed laps?

Hello dleb, and welcome to our forums.

On day 2 of the event, there will be 23-25 minute run sessions in the morning. We'll break for lunch. Right after lunch, we'll start the time trials. Cars will be grouped into 4-5 car run groups by class. During the time trial, cars will be sent out of pitout at ~20-30 second intervals. The idea of the time trials is for each competitor to turn 3 timed laps without being slowed down or slowing anyone else down. There is no passing during the time trial, and if there is a situation where one car catches up to another, the car that caught the other one will have the option to re-stage and run again. Exiting pit-out, each car will get almost a full warm-up lap. The timing clock starts as soon as the car crosses the start/finish line, and stops after its 3rd timed lap.

After the time-trials, we'll go to an open track format. At most of the events last year, we has an average of 1:30 to 2:00 hours of open track at each event. The amount of time we have during open track depends on how smoothly the time trial goes. If we get rain, the time trials take longer. If a car spills a bunch of oil or messes up the track, we have to take time to clean up the mess, which also means it takes longer to complete the time trials.

We cannot guarantee open-track after the time-trials, but at NHMS events, it is usually a pretty safe bet.

Cheers,
