Get GT5, it can serve as a kids game if needed... It's not a pure sim racer, but it's a very realistic racing game. You can toggle a bunch of driving aids - with them all off the realism is almost that of an iRacing or rFactor, and with the aids on it's more like Need for Speed or other racing titles. The funnest part is that there's a crazy number of cars and some fun challenges.John F wrote:I don't have a PS3, but am going to buy one for the online FP Shooter Black Ops. Are the physics "real" with GT5? I race with rFactor and have been debating joining iRacing. The latest "deal" on the PS3 has a choice of either a kids game or GT5 included in the price and I was wondering if it's worth getting. I don't want something with no physics where you can get airborne and still slow down by lifting.

Re: Gran Turismo 5
On Monday I'm getting flown down to Orlando to compete in the GT-Academy national finals. http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/news/academy/d5574.htmlblindsidefive0 wrote:Who else wants to be a professional driver...
GT Academy - basically a national Gran Turismo 5 competition where the winners will take part in a reality show to become a real race car driver.
http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/academy/2011/
The first round started today - it's 3 different time trials with different Nissans. I'm already signed up - 6th in the Northeast, and 31st in the US after my first runs tonight. Competition will obviously get tougher as this round runs a full 5 weeks.
I've made it past 3 rounds of competitors, and it's down to the last 32 (out of 55,000+ participants). I will play in a live GT5 tournament this week, with the top 16 moving on to Silverstone, UK to compete against each other in real cars. The winner of that round will go on to train to become a professional driver with full sponsorship and support from Nissan and Sony. All of this is going to be shown on SPEED as a reality show.
The 2010 winner still runs in the GT4 European Cup, and the 2008 winner has moved on to run LMP2 cars, finishing 2nd at Sebring yesterday. http://jalopnik.com/#!5783727/video-gam ... -real-race

Thanks for the wishes, guys!CP wrote:Don't forget to spew props for COM during interviews!
CP - I already had to submit a survey, probably stuff they can use to talk about me in the commentary. COMSCC is mentioned a couple times.
free membership in exchange for the advertising...??? Just kidding - thanks again for the support. I'll post in the forum how the whole thing goes.

Re: Gran Turismo 5
Obviously as his dad I'm proud of how well Nick is doing.
But it's also funny for me to see him proven right - he had always insisted that his GT game experience helps at the track, and I have had to slowly come around to accept the value in this as a prep activity to "real iron" racing. I still find it amazing that a real race team is looking to the gaming world to get rookie material.
As the competition reduces the group down to those with real driving talent, I really believe Nick's COMSCC experience - especially learning how to be a good driver from taking all he can from his instructors, and going back to get instructor time even after he soloed - will help him win this thing.
Go Nick!

Big congrats to Nick on tying for 8th out of 32 in the Orlando competition (out of 50,000 overall who registered for GT Academy), and getting a chance to compete in the next round at Silverstone!
