What part of "specific model" wasn't clear here?

C'mon guys, I'm just trying to provide clarification so that anyone
looking at this thread understands the rules as written. This comes
up all the time...

Herb, we like you, and more than that, we love to get all worked up over the rules. COM love that is, not man love. Don't let these Nissan guys get you all out of sorts, they're no good anyway.

I have good intentions now, so... hear me out.

1) (hypo) I do not have a roll cage and will not have a roll cage.
2) I pull out my glass sunroof and cover back up with sheet metal and full head liner.
3) My specific model, 92-95 Si, is not available w/o sunroof.
4) My justification for pulling it out is (as Dan said) for safety reasons.

No the current rules do NOT allow for this kind of change and justification. My question is should the rules allow for just changes based on safety?

What I am hearing is, "Mickey, we have covered this topic before 8 zillion times long before you're smart ass was born, so drop it" OR "Mickey, I'm too busy clarifying the current rules set, I've not considered this change, and we'll think about it plus you should submit a rules change in Nov" OR "Mickey, get you're short punk ass back to work and let the rules stand"

Sounds like a '...submit a rules change in Nov(ember)' to me. - as a general rule maybe not just for your particular class.

My only beef here is that a lot of times when people say the
words "changes based on safety", all I hear when it gets to my
ears is "performance gain exception just for me". :D :D :D

I would definitely submit it as a rule proposal, but don't try to
squeeze the safety angle too much. Just let it stand on the merits.
For the record, the SCCA allows sunroofs to be removed, and not
just the glass ones.

Thread back from the dead!!

I'm new to the COM forums as well as the club and looking forward to driving with you guys a couple of times this year (2011). I have a few questions regarding sunroof removal and thought that this might be the thread I can add to or ask.

I'm not worried about my class right now, just the safety aspect and weight reduction of removing my moonroof in my RSX Type-S. I have removed the glass moonroof and will be replacing it with Lighterfaster.com custom carbon fiber panel that will be window welded and bolted/riveted in with the supplied kit brackets. The 2011 rule book says this about sunroofs/moonroofs:

"If a sunroof is removed the remaining hole must be covered with a fixed metal replacement"

This is located in the car classification section. For the time trials as long as I am classed properly, are there any issues with a non-removable carbon fiber roof plug?

You'd be ok in street prepared where carbon fiber/fiberglass body parts are allowed.
