Newbie - driving school event
Newbie - driving school event
I just joined and cannot seem to find any details on driving school schedule vs time trial events, or a description of a "typical" event. The FAQ says you cannot sign up for a time trial until you have done a driving school. Can anyone explain this to me or point me to whereit is thoroughly covered on the website?

Re: Newbie - driving school event
school the first day and open track with time trial the second day of each event. You need to be good enough to get signed off or licensed on the school day. $100 discount for newbies. Plus $20 credit for each paid day.

Welcome!
Thanks for posting your question. This is a great opportunity for us to understand how useful our site is to new visitors and potential members such as yourself,
All COM events are at least 2 days long. There is always a "school/practice" day before the time-trial day.
Students, even first-timers, are welcome to register for both days. Students will receive a COMSCC logbook and classroom & personal instruction, as needed, throughout the school day. The logbook has enough pages to cover 8-10 events worth of evaluations. At the end of day 1, instructors will complete a chapter in the students' logbooks.
Before signing the evaluation for Day-1, the instructor will make one of three selections in the logbook:
[ ] Additional Instruction Required
Students with "Additional Instruction Required" are not ready to run day 2 without an instructor. At away events, we offer these students additional instruction on day 2. The caveat is that the student cannot participate in the time trial laps unless they are deemed Safe to Solo during the day on day 2. This is mandatory, as we do not allow passengers (instructors) during our time trial laps.
[ ] Safe to Solo
The student is not ready for their license, but is knowledgeable and safe on-track, and is qualified to drive solo and enter the time trials on day 2. Safe-to-Solo status expires at the end of the event. After the event Safe-to-Solo drivers return to "student" status.
[ ] Recommend License
The instructor recommends the student for COM license. The student is qualified to drive solo and enter the time trials on day 2. The Chief Instructor evaluates the logbook and student, and either grants the license or seems the student safe to solo for the event.
Here's how your license status (student vs licensed member) relates to how you register.
The 2nd chart shows how your Day-1 logbook status relates to day 2.

Will, is there also a way to feature the "Hot Lap" ride along program? My family was on the site looking for info on it. I'm not sure if it is well described or featured.

Good question. I believe this came up a couple of months ago too, and thought it had been addressed. That said, I still can't find it! We should make this a bit more prominent on our site.TroyV wrote:Will, is there also a way to feature the "Hot Lap" ride along program? My family was on the site looking for info on it. Here is some basic info about the Hot Lap Ride-Along from our News section:
