Ok, who is making changes in ST4?

Post by TroyV » Mon Nov 15, 2010 3:59 pm

I'm trying to decided if I need a 1.8 swap for next year. I heard Barry say he was moving to a 1.8.

Isn't that the same engine that Will used to set so many of the current ST4 track records?

No idea, I know surprisingly little about this car acually.....aside from the fact that just about everyone in the club has had a turn driving it.

Case in point: The dash vin doesn't match the car's vin. Imagine my surprise when upon coming through US customs and being asked the specific question "does the vin match the registration?" and answering yes, only to find out that it in fact didn't, and thusly spending the next hour or so in the office while four agents and a dog went over the car, the truck, my bags, and let all the air out of the tires looking to paint me as a coke mule. Talk about adventure...

The car is absolutely brilliant on a very good tire. A set of very good tires costs more than a low mile 1.8 will cost me. Just thinking out loud..

I was asked the same question at the border. He came back and asked "What parts of this car match this title?" "Well, most of it, but not the dash." Luckily, Honda has the VIN tags on nearly every panel and we went right through.

Yes, I can attest to the fact that it is a fast package and well set-up.

I should say it is fast as long as there is gas in the tank!!!!

Oh that's just great. I finally start getting close to the times of the other Miatas, and now everybody's gonna go and put in bigger engines. :P

FWIW, I'm staying with my 1.6. I've already spent all my money repairing and replacing bent metal. I did take the opportunity to upgrade the control arm bushings and motor mounts, though. Think that'll be as good as adding a 12 HP engine upgrade?

Dyno time spent fiddling with the MAS and timing usually makes the biggest gains with the 1.6L.

My 1.6 is getting tired, and it eats oil at events at the rate of about a quart a day.....especially when Mark drives it...:)

It doesn't consume oil on the street at all, so I'm assuming track time spent at or around red line to be the culprit.

I'm going to get a proper seat in the car too....my ribs cannot stand another minute in the Momo. I really liked Jeff's Ultrashield Halo seat when I drove his car, so I'll likely go for that, and get it mounted by a pro. I have the other Ultrashield spec seat I got from CY, so I'll finally be able to mount that as a passenger seat with another harness, and not make my passengers puke from getting tossed around. :)

I drove Karl's car at our final Devens event. I was VERY impressed with it.
