Nate, did you say i need to have a passenger set OR And a petty bar?
8 years ago i brought the car to ComScc as is today & asked what class it belongs in, it was com that said SPA, along with the must have, such as wearing a fire proof suit & roll bar etc., the new seat + moving the accusump & fire suppression bottle is going to be a considerable expense for a seat that will never be used!!! , are we splitting hairs here?

Page 21 of the rules: 14. The passenger seat may be removed when a “Petty Bar” is installed.

If you have a petty bar, you are all set - and safer, too!

I sacrificed a track record a few years ago for violating this particular clause.

Feel free to propose a rules change!

i was thinking of doing a petty bar in my porsche 948 but thinking about it more i could save some weight with just the plastic seat thats on the passenger side . but i like the safety part of the bar . also nate and john use my car for some ride alongs . what to do

i considered the same issue about the seat since i instruct with EMRA & would like to take the student in my car every once in a while, i'm not sure the seat would be lighter once you ad the mounting brackets, one other thing to consider is a removable petty bar as i saw when i googled it & then you might have them both

that reminds me i have to give my paper work to Will for becoming an instructor . making the bar removable would be ok . but i would have to redesign the front part of my cage to do so . i have to redo some of it any way becouse i'm removing the dash and installing lexan front glass . the seat with the mounting hardware now is only 8 lbs . it just bolts in no slidders . i have to think about this more !

Sounds perfect, David. I've made a bolt-in Petty bar for the Miata that I'm reasonably satisfied with - but I'm sure yours will be better.

all it is is a very uncomfortable jegs drag racing seats for 35 bucks . but they have 5 point belt holes ! hate and i have both sat in it and i think i can say for hi too they suck . but its a seat and by the rules its needed thow i don't know what good it would or does do in a crash .

Actually a 944 with a v8 swap would be PA anyway, changing the number of cylinders is not legal in SPA. Remember the discussion about the guy who put the v8 in the gen 2 RX7. Therefore no petty bar would be needed.

yep the 948 is a PA car no more spc for me ! but its not about rules with me installing a petty bar . its safety 1st !!!!

Maybe we should take John's advice. I'd be happy to run in PA but the rules are contradictory. SP rules say if you violate any SP requirement you are in Prepared, but Prepared says you can't be Prepared without meeting certain requirements. So bolt on a Non-DOT slick, for example, and it sounds like I am in Prepared, but not really.

It would be easier to set a few track records in PA which might be fun. By the way, my car's stock seats are already gone so I am looking forward to some 1:15s at NHMS in 2011.
