What am I looking at in these pictures? Can someone give us- track-time challenged folks a rundown on what looks like the south chicane screwed with again!

It's really annoying that the track continues to put cones out in 1 that limit the ability to run deeper. Those really need to get moved back. I prefer the good old days when they just put the cones straight across the oval.

Yup. The grass was paved over up to the wall in 2b. Which sounds great. Unfortunately they didn't grade it down so that it's level with the old pavement. Instead they created a hump that tosses the car out, so you have to stay >5 feet off the apex anyway.

I liked the "new" asphalt apex of 2b.I was able to come in a bit wider in one, early apexing, cut almost straight across the 2a apex and straight to the corner worker/wall/apex of 2b on the throttle. The transition off the new asphalt did not bother my car, and I could run about 1/2 second faster. My lap timer indicated 122.5's,which is about 1/2 second faster than the last time I ran the Focus at NHMS.(same tires) It was nice to see the exit speed radar unit in turn 12! That is the first time I have run there with it working. :D

Scott,
Friday night John Spain and I went out with George of the track to place the initial cones. All day Saturday we kept moving them including removing them as in these pix. The concrete of 2B has been moved 26 feet back. In the end, we settled on cones that were near the original apex but maybe 5 feet back so the configuration we ran all day Sunday was not bumpy and maybe back enough so you are not thrown into the wall as much as in the past.

I agree. I would like to be able to go deeper into 1 as well. The cones are too shallow.

Thanks for another great event. Great weather, great people. Thanks to all the workers. It was nice having the speed radar coming onto the straight.

Jeff/ Mick is there anyway this topic could be brought forward to the meeting to discuss NHMS track configurations ( it's almost like NHMS every time we have an event there's something New to really slow us down and become more technical with our cars instead of being able to race.... you know what i mean? and having the cones come straight across in 1 i agree with completely.

I'll bring it up at the next meeting, which I think will be at the Glen.
