Vintage races

Post by John F » Sun May 23, 2010 9:45 am

I went to NHMS for the vintage races yesterday. It was bizarre. I was taking pictures of some of the cars on track and realized that they all had passengers wearing t-shirts and no helmets. I started looking around and there were no flaggers. I went to the hot pits and there was a line of people waiting to have rides. This was apparently a "feature" during lunch with about a dozen cars on track.

And I was timing the races- vintage cars, old Formula Fords, vintage motocycles and side cars. A COM well driven Miata would beat every one of them! Including the 67 vette and the Cad-Allard.

I was there yesterday too. They were giving rides around noon to people in the cars - they weren't competitive rides.

Did you time the group that was on the track around 3 pm? They were pretty fast, 60's vettes, datsuns, volvoes and camaros. A stang as well.

I did the parade lap with my parents and GF in my dad's studebaker lark. Never been around the track at low speed before!

Here you go Mark. They were going fast enough! I did see David Hobbs, though, and an original 289 Cobra that was going to run.
