jadams you still get points even if you don't win ! you just don't get full points . if your goal is to get as many year end points as possable you have to enter every race even if you don't have a snow balls chance in hell of winning !
Re: whos cars did they use
That was precisely my point! Run your tow vehicle, snow vehicle, slow vehicle...... and get your points.....no one is going to protest you for having a slow vehicle

I'm also in total agreement.
David,
You are correct on all counts. You can run any car in FP as long as it meets all of the safety rules. Battery cut-off switches are not a requirement, they are only listed as a recommendation.
To be legal in FP, a car must have a rollbar or rollcage, window net(s) or arm restraints, 5-point "or better" harness, metal bulkhead between fuel tank and cockpit.
Your VW is a beautiful piece of art. BRING IT!!!

Re: whos cars did they use
Actually, the fuel cell bulkhead is not a full class requirement for Formula Prepared:
D. Fuel cell (tank) must be separated from the passenger compartment by a metal bulkhead, except in open-wheel Formula
cars. All fuel and oil lines passing through the passenger compartment must be either steel tubing or steel braided hose
(Aeroquip, Earls, etc.).

Re: whos cars did they use
it seams to me that its ok to bend the rules , cheat and so on as long as you don't get protested . maybe its the way i was razed or my sence of fair play . but i don't think is right even if the car has no chance of winning !! to run it in a class if it does not meet the rules of that class . its not about the protest its about what is right ! in the photos of the m3 there is no window net ! was it realy installed just for the TT ? PLEASE !
Re: whos cars did they use
You may not see it, but the car has two nets and both were installed in the car prior to Monticello. If you attend NHMS-1 see for yourself. And if your car isn't running, you can even borrow it for the TT if you paint my helmet in ///M3 colors

Re: whos cars did they use
thanks ! but my 87 vw gti is a legal car for FP . i built it back in 88 to run scca itb . but in 95 i returned it back to a street car becouse scca would keep uping the safety going from a bolt in cage to a weld in then from a 6 point to a 8 point cage and so on . any way if your a com member and your dues are up to date then i will panit your things at cost . a helmet is about 125 dollars to airbrush . the average race car type paint job is about 1500 to 2000 dollars .
Re: whos cars did they use
That's a great price to paint a helmet! But come on, an '88 BMW M3 versus an '87 ITB GTI? Not a contest, not on new Hoosiers. Do the math, then prime your air brush! I'm getting a new helmet! http://www.stilo-usa.com

it doesnt matter what car i use . i will be the slowest car in my class . and i have not had the car on a track in over 5 years now . i only drive the thing about 100 miles a year so maybe its time to started using it ? i just looked at the 205/50/15 race tires i have for it . i knew that they were going to be no good sitting for over 5 years . BUT DAM ! there just spliting all over . so i will just have to use the falken azenis that are on the car .

Re: whos cars did they use
I tried on a few Stilo helmets at PRI last December. By far the nicest helmet I've ever seen or tried on. Super light and comfortable. The drink, intercom and air systems are also very nice. I thought I had a price list with my catalog, but I don't. IIRC, the basic ones start around $600 and go all the way up to $2500 for a carbon helmet with drink, intercom or air systems.

I recently tried on a Stilo. Very nice hemlet. The CF version with build-in intercom was over $2,000. Believe the composite helmets were about $1,000. Fit very nicely. Helmets weigh about 3.25 pounds, but the true weight savings is to your wallet. I like the ear muffs and integrated audio options, fairly innovative stuff.

You can run a slower car in a faster class, to earn points in that class. It's done all the time. You need to meet the rules for that class, of course - safety, in particular. Roll bar, for example.
