IMPORTANT NOTICE – Lodging in Monticello, NY

Post by Mark Swinehart » Tue May 11, 2010 6:09 pm

I WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE ALL COM MEMBERS TO NEVER STAY AT THE LODGE AT ROCK HILL WHILE AT THE TRACK IN MONTICELLO, NY.

To make a long story short (with over six telephone calls involved) - these folks over charged me for my two-night stay. I made reservations requesting the COM Sports Car Club/Fred Ferguson rate and instead of charging me $89 per night plus taxes they charged me a higher rate per night plus taxes.

When I checked out I asked why and if my card could be credited. The morning desk clerk said he didn’t have authority to change the charge and that I should call Amy or Laurie. I have spoken to each of them numerous times and finally received a credit for the difference for a one-night stay. Today I again spoke to Laurie (the Hotel’s Manager) and was told by her that she can’t credit my account the difference in the second nights charge. She said only the auditor can correct the mistake.

I asked when the auditor might be able to resolve the overcharge and Laurie curtly said, “I have no idea since I don’t have any idea when he works next”.

I been told that there is a new Best Western in the area and I understand that their rate is $89 per night. Guess where I’m staying next year and I would recommend that you NEVER STAY AT THE LODGE AT ROCK HILL.

When I arrived to check in they started to charge me $109 per night. I explained that I was part of the COM group and had made reservations early in March and had been told it would be at a reduced rate.

So they changed it to $98.10 plus taxes per night. I said I thought the agreed upon rate was something like $89 per night - and I was told "Oh no, we never reduce the rate that low".

So after traveling five plus hours I just took the room. Upon further checking with some other people from COM that were staying there I found out that the charge should have been $89 per night.

For the same price I'll stay in a new hotel instead of staying in that dump with rude staff.

Mark, If you paid with a credit card, you should be able to have them put a hold on the payment. Just tell them there is a dispute over the charges. Most CC companies will be happy to do that for their customers. I certainly will not stay there again. Their service was horrible, the continental breakfast was a joke, the rooms were just barely clean and their advertising was grossly exagerated. Newest resort in the county!!!??? I typically like to support the Mom & Pop places when travelling, you usually meet some interesting people. Next time it will be corporate hotel all the way.

I misplaced my computer thumb drive while I was there. Carl Fossum and I searched my room looking for it.

We made the mistake of looking under the beds for it. Under one bed we found a bunch of used tissues in about a half inch of dust, but under the other bed was a used condom.

I have to add that the used condom was already there before we got into the room.

Thanks for clarifying Carl, Mark.. I'll steer clear of the lodge.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

FYI for next time.... Bert and I stayed at the Super 8, and it wasn't a great place either. We got the room for 90 bucks a night and the room was clean, but the bed felt like a plywood sheet. There was a very polite father and son team running the front desk. The continental breakfast was coffee, corn flakes and donuts.. Mmmmm.....donuts..

Walmart was great, the parking lot was clean and well lite . It was a little crowded the first night, 4 pickups with and with out trailers, one 40' motor home and a smaller motor home with car trailer and a van with trailer. Price was right ---$0.00 :D :D :D
I will be back there June 14-15 , I guess I'm just a Walmart person :( :( :(

Don't get me started, I'm trying to forget that dump!

The first room I was given was occupied, walked back to the desk, Knocked on the door of the second room, the person that was in line behind me answered the door. Back to the desk, third time was the charm.
Relaxing on the bed, no battery in the remote! Back down for the third time, they have no batteries. They raided another room for a remote that worked.
No water pressure in the shower.
Toilet tried to back up on me.
I was locked out of my room after checking out, another trip to the front desk where the help was more intent on finding a plastic spoon for someone than getting me another key.

.. and I was expecting pool and HBO. NOT! Kind of a dump. But a BIG dump.
Who stayed at the Best Western? I initially had res. there and when I cancelled the Indian was distressed and later lowered his rate.

We stayed at the Best Western. It's a dump also. It was listed as across from the track, yeah, horsetrack. Bed was hard as a rock and the place was out of the 50's. I wouldn't stay there again, but then it sounds somewhat better than the lodge.

Les,

Wait a second. Are you telling me your room had a TV and a toilet? Was it the presidential suite?

Kidding aside, I was OK at the Lodge too. Cleanliness was on par with the typical "track" hotel, couple of points subtracted for maintenance, more points subtracted for the aptly-described "counter intelligence".

I would think an early AM breakfast place with combination convenience store would do well there.

Our TV was missing the remote and our toilet backed up too, but I wasn't sure who's fault that was ... it might have been self-inflicted from undercooked pork.

If ANYONE found a decent place at a decent price please speak up. I was told that MMC members stayed at the lodge ... the ones who invested w/ Lehman Brothers perhaps.

p.s. I also made the coffee one morning (the "counter" intelligence was asleep in front of the TV) in case you had a bad cup of java too!
