I have attended a few Audi (NEQ) events and their tech guys had no problem with my Miata and it's roll bar/no full cage.

If you want more Audi club love, the North Atlantic chapter is at NHMS June 2-3, which is right after COM is there (May 31-June 1). I know not everyone is crazy enough to want 4 days back to back at the track, but I love it

Jeff..not sure if Audi will let the Atom run with them.I know instructors can run anything..but not sure about students.I have been trying to earn their confidence using the Miata,but will be running the Atom with COM on 2-3,so not sure if I can stay up for their event if the Atom is a no go.Maybe if I was an instructor trainee with Audi...

Maybe some of you guys should consider getting into club racing if you feel that the HPDE setting is holding you back. If your car can get through tech, you can pretty much do whatever you want on track within reason...passing anywhere, spin all you want, lap timers legal, one seat ok, solo always and much more watching your mirrors. If you don't like one club's policies, find another one. Trackmasters runs open track events at the Glen all season. PDA has open passing in the advanced group. SCDA has a loose pointby policy. SCCA and NASA hold weekend races with all ability levels represented in every race group.

I have been looking at other clubs to attend,and it is good to know those you have listed are more open to all cars. It was going to be convenient to attend the BMW event right after the open track day at NHMS,that's all. Seeing as their policies regarding cars are so strict,I will not be considering any of their events in the future.

I think point-bys should not be required. It distracts from teaching beginners and people in slower cars to stay on the line. They shouldn't be spending their time making way for the fast metal. It's important for them to learn to drive predictably, which means being on the line. It's not wrong to give a point by, it can be a nice and helpful gesture. The requirement though makes things more difficult. When multiple cars are passing the situation is never clear, and it isn't really possible to give point-bys to both sides at the same time.

I just think slower traffic should pay attention first and foremost to driving their car... And especially avoiding driving off the line to make room for faster cars.

Cars giving a pointby should not be going offline. The passing car goes offline to pass.

"Drivers being overtaken by other cars are expected to:
1. Remain on “the line”
2. Signal to the overtaking driver which side he/she would prefer the pass to be performed on"

Mark, I think you should put Colbalt SS badges on the car, and add a chevy emblem to the front hood, put some heart beat of America trash talk on with pin stripes or deck stripes and play dumb.

I run and instruct with BMW WMC, but I cannot use my miata, een though its fine for COM. For any convertible (or car without a roof) they are mandated by BMW national to require A) a full cage and B) a hardtop. I dont know why BMW national require this, however they are very firm about it.

They are a good group and have some good driers and instructors, just dont bring a car with no roof. Thankfully my Audi will be ready soon so that solves that problem

Boston BMWCCA lets me run my Miata with a rollbar, seats and harnesses. No hardtop required. BMW National doesn't require the chapters to ask for a full cage or a hardtop, it's up to each chapter to decide what they are comfortable with.

Interesting as they wont let me run wiht my hoop, race seats and 6 points even on my own as an instructor..... How long ago did you run? as these regs are fairly new, within 2 years.

I'm not using a hoop - I have a Hard Dog hardcore bar, double diagonal. I know a lot of clubs would not consider a hoop to be a roll bar.

I ran with them last summer in July. No one in the club has given me any indication that this year would be any different. White Mountain will NOT let me run, but Boston will. I had my car inspected by the HPDE coordinator prior to registering for the event. That is their convertible policy - you have to be cleared in advance to pass the broomstick and all that good stuff.
