No NASCAR. Let's see, they drive around in circles until someone gets dizzy and hit the wall. No, not racing

"they drive around in circles until someone gets dizzy and hit the wall"

Isn't that the basic story of life?

NASCAR does race at Watkins Glen, Infineon, Curcuit Gilles Villeneuve and Road America, all road courses... .

I know..they aren't sports cars. I think of them as Grand Touring cars,USA style!

NASCAR is interesting if you take it for what it is - a spec series with painted on headlights  It's all about getting the car set up for the conditions, and it takes years of experience to to know what to do in a particular set of circumstances. With all the cars basically equal, and with no F1-style telemetry, the ability of the driver to communicate car behavior to the crew is critical. I'm guessing that's why it's not a slam dunk for an accomplished open wheel driver to get up to speed in NASCAR.

Danica crashed out of the Grand National race, she was her normal ungreatful self.
Nelson Piquet finishes 7th in truck race.

Let's see..Dario Franchitti of Indy car(Spec series) fame (Champion in 2007) hops in a NASCAR Sprit Cup car for 10 races in 2008...has NO wins..NO top 5's..NO top 10's...and then hops back into an Indy car for '09 and wins the series championship.

What DOES that tell us? Ahh..nothing... ("That things a..beast!")

Ah...Danica..she was good for Indy ratings..and she is already good for NASCAR ratings.

What does THAT tell us? Ahh..nothing... ($$$$$)

All I can say is I sure wish it was ME in one of those 190mph rocket ships..

GO MARK MARTIN and JOEY LOGANO!! (Same line I used last year.. )

They are all good drivers or they wouldn't be there. The equipment is top notch. The "racing" is boring! NASCAR has become the corporate arm of motorsports and is treated as a corporate entity. Their idea that "everyone wants to see the pit crews" means that it has become yellow flag racing. What other venue throws a yellow for a hot dog wrapper on the track? In the old days it was an officially sanctioned party that also had racing, which was a great draw. I saw the governor of Delaware being driven around the pits at Dover with 3 state troopers and everyone of them had a tall bud in their hands. Now it's a corporate empire that will sell you any sort of memorabilia because it makes millions! They get the best hot shoes because they pay the best. The purse at the Daytona 500 alone is more than the total season payouts at the next three largest leagues combined! It used to be OK but not any more.

I see it as a big show, with cars going 195mph,door to door.. Most of what is on the tube today does not hold my attention for 5 minutes, but I admit,I watched the whole 8hrs. of yesterdays race. Not what was expected, but so is life, sometimes.
Is it the best racing on TV? Not for me..that would be Motocross! Is NASCAR good entertainment for a lot of people? Sure is. I would rather watch the worst Nascar race over the best Olympic anything, but that's just me.. :sunny:

Correction: Danica WAS CRASHED out of the Nationwide race. SHE did not crash out of the race. As for being ungrateful? I thought she handled herself very professionally, despite the tremendous pressure placed on her by the media, other racers and any of you naysayers. No mention of her impressive debut in the ARCA race? Very selective critism as I see it.

Also no mention of the fact that that it wasn't the Kyle (Busch), Tony, Jimmy, and Jeff (Gordon) show? Hopefully, Jamie, JR, Truex Jr, Almendinger (he pushed JR from 10th to 2nd in one lap!) and JPM show that this is once again a widely competitive series. Hey the fact that these are "Spec" cars does nothing but make for closer racing, No more of things like the winner lapping the field (boring!).

I see a decided lack of appreciation for the talent these guys/girls have.

Not from me. I will say, though that I always felt that Danica had excellent technical skills, but tended to shy away from close quarter open-wheel-to-open-wheel situations. This won't be a problem with NASCAR, will it? 8)

I agree, no shying away when they drive that close!
I wonder what 190 mph feels like on a bumpy track like Daytona?

Did anyone even notice there were three "other" women in Danicas "debut" in the ARCA race? Talk about getting no respect. It's not like there are no women in racing,it's just that there aren't as many with the publicity pull of Danica. I think she will do OK. Dale jr. finished 25th in points last year, but is the #1 most popular driver with fans. It's not all about the win with Nascar...

In fact, the Owens girl ran a great 3rd late in the ARCA race before fading after not holding the bottom of the track.
