This can't be good news.

Mental note: don't build a new track near folks with lots of money and time on there hands.

Wasn't it built on airport property? What can your expectations of noise be if you live by an airport in the city? if you desire peace and quiet, you live in the country. Hmm..I wonder if all of this will affect the planned Palmer track..

Not good.
But to be honest that racket would piss me off too.

It would be interesting to see which came first, the houses or the track. Many times, people find land inexpensive around such facilities, build their dream homes and then start complaining about the noise.

Notice no sound of lawn mowers and leaf blowers. I don't live near a race track, but the number of hours I have to spend listening to those things is amazing. My neighbors are great people, but do you need to use the leaf blower every single day on your driveway? If they get rid of one they should do the other too...

They were there before the track.

I could never live near a race track, I'd be so excited hearing the sound of the engines, I would not be able to get any thins done.

Seriously, a group like this could be dangerous for any perspective or existing track.

Maybe the track could buy them all earplugs? No,I would not like the sound of race cars in my yard like they seem to be enduring.. I wonder if it is possible for the track to build more noise barriers? What is the db limit for cars at NJMP?

My experience is that most "noise complaint" groups are just crazy/cranky/self-absorbed/bored people who have nothing better to do than look for a reason to give others a hard time.

That being said, I do not see any reason why entire classes of race cars are barely muffled and generate 100+ dB - this makes our entire sport so much more vulnerable. What's the gain of an unmuffled engine? A few % more HP? Ridiculous - there should just be a 90 dB or so limit for any vehicle, forcing everyone to wear a muffler - even competition, noise gone. It seems to me that the complaint is legitimate. As much as I enjoy the entire visceral experience of being at the track, that sound all day long at home and during "peaceful" weekends would drive me absolutely crazy. Those communities were built long before the track was there. The videos describe the situation well.

I agree that as a group, we would be better off to reduce our sound levels when possible. There's a bit of give-and-take to being good neighbors.

I'm sure that the corp. of engineers went in front of the towns planning boards and said that the noise would be no louder that the occasional lawn mower. The abutters probably did not realize that they will be listening to it 10 hours a day, 7 days a week. Even keeping the dB level doesn’t create a whisper quiet event. Even approaching Lime Rock with its 89 dB level, there is still no question that cars are running at speed. Those you tube videos look like they could be pretty convincing.

Anyone know what NJMP sound requirements are? Can't find it on their website..

There isn't any need for the cars to be noisy. Notice how quiet your modern high performance bikes are. You basically can't even hear a big bike with nearly 200 HP when your next to it at a stop light. If there is noise its because the manufacturer thinks (probably rightly ) that you want it.

I agree it sounds sucky listening to that all day. It would be a little more fair though if those folks would quiet down their lawn care services too though. I'll bet these are the same people that have a whole crew running machines and swarming over their yard every week. Count that by the number of people doing that and the distance that noise travels and it's just as irritating, at least where I live and I only have neighbors on one side of my house,...

There should be a general EPA noise regulation...
