Since Dan D keeps goading me

Post by 6PAK72 » Sun Jan 10, 2010 6:47 pm

Friend of mine just finished this build. 1969 Spitfire, GM 383, 550cfm Holley, stroker kit, 4-speed, Muncie rear end with Honda CV's. No dyno yet, but figures it's around 450hp.

Somehow it's not really a Triumph much anymore...but it's pretty sick anyway.

Awesome!
Back around 1960, a friend in Tilton NH named Tommy Sheehan (sound familiar to you old timers in COM?) had a perfectly wonderful Austin Healy 100/4 which ended up with a 283 cu inch Chevrolet in the engine bay! His buddy, Jackie McDonald, took a perfectly beautiful Jaguar XK140 and did the same. Those guys were called crazy back then!
I believe Tom still runs SCCA and an occasional COM event in a Porsche 911. Jackie turned into (literally!) a hermit and still lives in Route 3 in Tilton. A couple of real colorful characters back in the day and on into the present.

Just because I put a Chevy 350 V8 in a triumph doesn't mean all Triumphs should have a V8 :x Plus you have to remember that the Triumph i put the V8 in had a terrible V8 from the factory :!: The Triumph Stag had the worse motor of any car in the last 50 years , even worse than a Yugo :!: :!: :!:

Put you know Jeff , your TR6 is bigger than a Spitfire, maybe a nice little 289 would be cool. I have 3 fellows I know with V8 in Austin Healys why not a TR6 ???

The Spit is in Texas, so unless he gets motivated for steamers and lobstah, I doubt we'll see him.

The TR we have stays in 72 fitting - no holes, no body drilling, etc. But, I'm kind of trolling for a race-built 6 just in case I win the lotto.

Or, I could always go backward and put a Jag motor in the Miata:

Jag in the TR would be cool. Chevy LS3 in the Miata would be FUN!

Who in their right mind tries to put a V12 in a Miata..on their lawn?

So enjoy this one - we have a customer in Florida who's name is Kris Adam. We were talking the other week, and he mentioned his Dad owned the local Porsche dealership and raced in his spare time.

I mentioned the TR, and he sent this picture up - apparently Dad is THE Adam who ran the Group44 TR8 that won Sebring. His comment was that this car was obscenely fast.

It's been restored and ran at Road Atlanta last year with the rest of the Group44 cars including the D-Type that was flown over from England.
