One more thing..for a small, light,FAST car, the Atom is VERY roomy. Quite tall people fit well, and even those a bit heavier than normal( 8) ) can get in the car without a crane. The seat is comfy for most once some EVA pads are positioned strategically, and offers good support.

I'm not saying I have never bought new stuff. My very first motorcycle was new. (1969 Honda CT70)

A new Atom3 base car would be very fast right out of the box, with appropriate tires, and dependable. You could mod it up to go as fast as you ever needed, and more..

Rain? Rain? We all know,it NEVER rains on a COM time trial.

If you get an Atom, you will be in PB class with COM. No picnic lunch...

i wish it would rain ! but Sam keeps saying some prayers or some thing so it doesnt rain .and it only rained at tremblant . that was the only time i trophyed with comscc . i do like racing in the rain ! its the grate equalizer ! A honda ct 70 . i started off with a 5hp mini bike that when you went throw water the tork converter would slip and you had to push with your feet . then i moved up to a honda trail 70 . one thing with the atom i would want to install 2 bars to the cage . that go from the main hoop down to the front of the car right and left sides .with the way the nose slopes down . i would not want to hit a stopped car and have it come up into me . i always thought that the atom used a honda motor ? but NO !

It just dawned on me...if you bought a new Atom3 with a normally aspirated Honda motor, you would be in PC.
Most of the used Atoms out there will be brammo built Atom2's with the Ecotec LSJ motor(all supercharged),in 205hp,245hp or 300hp. tunes. In actuality, they all were within 60hp of each other in measured rwhp, not very exact were the tunes.

If you drive an Atom, you might learn to hate the rain...

You know..if you ran the factory wheels with DOT rubber, with the factory fenders..I don't see why an Atom3 or Atom2,normally aspirated 4cyl, factory production car could not run in SPC. :D I ran V710's on my car and they worked pretty well..enough to win two FTD's at Devens autocross. They are not as good as full race tires, but damn close.
The Atom3 frame has the vertical side bars repositioned to allow more elbow room.Other than that, they are the same frame. Both cars share many components, however the wheel bolt pattern is different as they use the UK 4x114 wheels. The Atom2 uses 4x100bp. The front and rear verticals are different as are the control arms. The Atom3 is more in line with the UK built cars. When brammo motorsports was building the Atom2,they wanted to try some of their own ideas,(GM drivetrain, different control arms, vertical links) but the Ariel factory in UK said.."NO". brammo did anyway, and things became..,.heated. That is about the time TMI in Virginia took over production.

Colorful,ain't he?

Scratch the Atom from street prepared due to no windshield..unless you got one with a windshield...which is an option.

Under the COM rules for street prepared, you would have to show an Atom with the bubble screens is street legal in NH (or have a valid reg in another state)to qualify for running in street prepared. At least, that is my take on the rules.I don't know what the NH statues are concerning windshields on cars, street rods or replica/kit cars,so I can't say for certain if an Atom with just the bubble screens can legally be registered in NH. I would guess yes..but I really don't know.

Geezo, lots of rules,regs,statues...that's why I like prepared. Not too many rules..

Nothing wrong with running in PC class..

Mark. I hope you're not complaining about Atoms not being able to run in the SP classes. There is absolutely no excuse for these "cars" not cleaning up in Prepared.

Does it sound like I am complaining? Rules are to be applied to all cars equally, regardless of what class they eventually end up.If the rules say a production car, 4 cylinder, normally aspirated, that can be legally registered in NH and pass state inspection can run in SPC,then so be it. The Atom is a car in the true definition;it is a factory built, turn key,4 wheel vehicle, designed to transport people on public roads at legal speeds, and pass most states vehicle inspections.Just because some states want us all driving white Priuses does not make the Atom a non car. It may not have all the creature comforts some expect or need,or look like every other car box on the road, but that is why the Atom is unique.
Most of the resentment I get about the Atom is from people who can't beat the Atom.
Less really is more. Weight is the enemy.
For the record, the Atom will pass any state emissions test and gets over 30mpg :D

I guess my post sounded like sour grapes  My only point was that I can't imagine an Atom owner even bothering to consider whether the car should run in SP or P - it should kill anything in either classification.

Rules are rules, and if one is looking to classify a car they are considering to use in the COM club, these are the guidelines that are in place. The rules don't say you will or will not be competitive in your class, they merely attempt to place cars similarly equipped with others so equipped. The problem comes when you have a car like the Atom.It is a very unconventional street car,but still deserves to be treated by the same rules. Like it or not,the Atom is here, and there will be more of them showing up(hopefully). They are a great car to own if you like speed and an open air experience. They are simple to maintain and may not seem like they are worth the buy-in price, however I would disagree. In areas of the country that don't have our crappy 4 months of winter and multitude of rain days, the Atom can be used on a daily basis. You can even bring home groceries in one if need be. :D
I can't think of another car I would rather own over the Atom. They are simple to work on and don't need much maintenance.Because of the low weight, there is little stress on all the components.Brakes last for years of use and even race tires last for many event miles. If you need parts, they are readily available for very reasonable costs.

I personally don't believe in any classes, and the fastest car is just that;the fastest car..and so on down the line.I did not buy mine to win trophys with,I just like to drive fast with control and safety.
Finding COM was the best thing to happen to me to satisfy my speed addiction. :D :D
