As mentioned SACD May 1 and 2
FCA (Ferrari Club of) is May 3 and 4

Will be at both events :) May looks to be rockin' :)

BTW: i think the FCA guys have space for non-Ferrari cars to enter. Last year at LR we have a few Beemers and a few P-cars plus a Lambo. E-mail Bob Coates at rc@parawire.com and tell him the Enjoy the Track guy sent ya.
Enjoy the Track,

Needless to say, the COM date in late June has been taken by another club.

Ryan,

The HANS requirement for BMW is only for club racing, not DE events.

Just wanted to chime in about WGI. I just checked the schedule for the first time today. I was pretty dissapointed to not see WGI there (and NHIS three times - dont care much for NHIS). WGI is my favorite track.

Good to know. Like I said, I won't be making any WG appearances, but wanted to make sure those that did weren't in for any surprises.

no watkins glen no main course at summit point

Post by mgeyer » Thu Mar 02, 2006 3:35 pm

This is my first post as a COM member although I have been a member for many years. I feel compelled to post after having read that Watkins Glen and the main course at Summit Point have been removed from the schedule for this year.
To avoid be redundant I understand trying to attract new members to the club with additional dates at NHIS but at the same time I know of four members who will not participate in any COM events now with those two dates eliminated from the schedule.
We are located in Virginia and very much enjoy the competitive time trials of COM. However, driving on tracks with the history of Watkins Glen and Summit Point make these events that much more attractive. Also to be able to somewhat compare your efforts with what Grand Am , World Challenge cars etc. run is a lot of fun and a good measuring stick as well.
I cannot for the life af me understand why the main track at Summit Point was changed for the Shenandoah circuit.
As an instructor for many events on the Jefferson circuit at Summit and having raced on the main circuit many times, I cannot believe that there were not more people who found the Shenandoah circuit not only unsafe but not exactly the most interesting circuit to drive.
In stock V8 cars you can easily catch air entering the bowl area. For prepared cars this can be a disaster. As was the case at the one lap of America when a prepared WRX caught air collapsed the suspension, severed the brake lines and was catapulted over the bowl over the berm etc. I know of no SCCA races at this circuit. Its just too tight, too small and too many blind spots. I believe it is a recipe for problems unless you have an excess of corner workers.
Certainley this is only my opinion but if I am going to invest my time and money on running at a track, it will be one that is truly a race track suited for more than go karts and small bore cars. This decision is the equivalant of having the option to run the Watkins Glen long course or short course and choosing the short course. I don't get it!
I hope Com will at least consider Watkins Glen in the future and please consider going back to the real race track at Summit Point.
I wish everyone with Com a fun & safe year!

Come to Mosport and Tremblant

Post by brucesallen » Thu Mar 02, 2006 4:38 pm

Mike,
Bring your big iron to Mosport and Mt. Tremblant. It will be worth your trip. Both make the Summit main track look like NHIS and Watkins Glen seem like a boring drag race.

The WRX that crashed at Shenandoah during One Lap severed his brake lines!? That's a scary thought.

I believe Summit was beyond our control, we were not given the option of any dates on the main track. We took Shenandoah when it was offered. That was the gist of what I got from the October & November meetings.

I agree with Bruce - Mosport and Mt Tremblant are not to be missed!

Watkins glen / Summit Point

Post by mgeyer » Wed Mar 15, 2006 4:42 pm

Bruce and Will,
I believe both of you when you describe Mosport and Mt. Trembant. I have heard nothing but rave reviews for each track. To be brutally honest though it is a bit of a haul for me being in Virginia. The options of Summit, VIR, Pocono, Beaver Run, Road Atlanta or Mid Ohio seems a little easier on the travel time.
That is not to say that I have ruled out going to the other tracks, but it would be more fun heading up there with someone else rather than by myself.
Bruce, it was nice to see you at the Glen last year as I do not know that many COM members and dinner on the boat was a great opportunity to be able to talk cars and catch up on what has been taking place.
It was a tough year for my friends down hear with their cars. Many mechanical problems plagued all of us and really put a damper on the season.
I hope all of us can rebound this year and have a lot of fun and make one of the trips up north.
I still have some work to do to sort my car out and I hope to have an opportunity to do so at Summit Point where I;ll be instructing on April 10th.
I apologize if my original e-mail sounded a bit bitter, but I was really looking forward to Watkins Glen again and I am just disapointed that it will not be taking place.
Best wishes to all of my COM buddies and I hope you all have a great year.

WGI & else

Mike -

Not to worry about your posts, well said. Your thoughts are shared by many. We've enjoyed meeting another group (you guys) of race/gearheads like us. Hopefully, our paths will cross in the future.

Best,

Don P
