Heh. Brings back memories. I learned to drive in my mom's '69 Plymouth Valiant, which became mine to use the summer after high school. It handled like a hay wagon, but like Tom says, those slant six engines are the definition of bulletproof -- they do last forever.

I had a '69 Dart, it was awesome.
I convinced my girlfriend at the time to buy a '73 Duster with the same Slant six motor and a three speed manual. I told her the engine was bulletproof... She somehow managed to blow it up. Then I broke up with her.

I had a slant 6 '72 dodge dart that ran great until I got tail-happy in a sand-swept corner, I knifed across the road and onto someone's lawn and hit some landscape rocks, the nose dug in, the rear came up, the car did a slow pirouette and came down on its roof. The motor was still running, the wheels were still spinning, my headlights were shining straight into the people's living room - I kicked open the door, rolled out from the car and went up to the house and used their phone to call a tow truck (Ned's in Burlington - they're still in business!). The next day another friend went off in the exact same place, except he went off straight and hit a telephone pole and totaled his car (and got cited for driving to endanger - ouch).

My next dodge dart was an 8 cyl that lost its brakes while I was driving in Boston. I blew thru an intersection, drove into a gas station and had to choose between a van or the building, so I aimed for the van ... unfortunately, some people were in the van and they wanted to sue me but the cops came and discovered the van was unregistered, uninsured, and had attached plates, so they let me go and detained the people of the van :?

Needless to say, I did not get another dodge dart.

Haha. It sounds like the Dart wasn't the problem in this equation.

Maybe not, but those dodge darts were definitely Lemons-worthy, esp after I got done w/ them! At least no one was hurt or broken up over it 8)
