25 Hours of Thunderhill

Post by boltonite » Sun Dec 06, 2009 11:55 am

Spec Miata driver & national champ Steve Gorriaran (aka Gorilla) is doing the 25 Hours of Thunderhill, driving solo.

He's gone 20+ hours so far, stopping only for fuel, a brake job (cost him the E2 lead), breakfast, and the toilet.

If you're bored you can follow the live T&S feed on the NASA site (http://www.drivenasa.com:8080/liveresults/25hour/), Shawn Dewey (crewing for Steve) is also posting updates on the Spec Miata forum.

Go Steve!

22.5 hours later, Gorilla leads E2 again and sets a personal best time 20+ hours into his stint, zoom zoom!

25 Hours of Thunderhill update

Post by boltonite » Mon Dec 07, 2009 10:50 am

If you haven't heard, Steve Gorriaran won the E2 class at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill, setting the fast lap in class after 20+ hours behind the wheel.

Several COM veterans were on Steve's crew: Dan Malik (data guru and crew chief for the CRS COM racing team), Leos Kubec, and Dave Woodle. Kudos to Steve and the team! It was a record setting performance, almost as good as Luigi Chinetti's win at the 24 Hours of LeMans.

So he stopped getting out of the car after 12 hours, then they go on to say "Utilizing a special funnel that drastically reduced refueling times..." Nice.

Time for this guy to go Pro. I've heard rumors that he'll be moving up to World Challenge shortly.

I can't imagine a 13hr. track session... That is stamina.
It's not what you drive, it's how you drive. "Lap times matter"
