Doh! Do you suppose I was thinking the number 19 was just floating in thin air? Sorry I missed that LOL. Sure, they're all fun. I've been out of circulation for awhile so not so aware anymore of classes etc.

Re: New formula class rules change proposal
I'm not sure where the mini-Indy would class out there in the "rest of the world"....but with COM it would be formula. Maybe it runs the "modern" F500 classes in wheel to wheel racing? There actually are a LOT of different "formula" class cars.More than I ever thought existed.

Re: New formula class rules change proposal
The formula mini-indy's usually run on ovals, and are somewhat popular in the mid west. The same seller has/had a one for $1500 that has a 440 in it. The side pods usually have have the radiator in one side and the fuel cell in the other. This car would not be legal for F500 without a lot of changes, but would be a great AMod autocrosser.

Re: New formula class rules change proposal
Classing the F500 and Formula Ford cars with ASR, F5000, Formula Atlantic and even F1 cars is just so lame it defies description. People wonder why these cars don't show up anymore...
Be a little more honest and go ahead and call it FU...
There was a reason the club didn't allow modifying these cars. The club is not competent to judge the safety or appropriateness of these changes. You have a real can of worms here if you approve that proposal. I can easily double the horsepower in my car and bolt on larger tires. The parts are just laying around from other cars. The club should think really hard before they encourage this...
Maybe we could use a class for NT, No Trophy. We just treat each other to a drink at the end of the day. I guess at some level I resent being used to fill a class so someone in a Formula Atlantic can be impressed with themselves for beating me. As a former Rules Committee chairman I understand not all cars can be competitive, but we certainly always made an effort.

I am all for putting the rules back to the way they were a few years ago when "cars of greater potential than FF run for FTD only." But that wasn't preferred by the BOD. Propose it!
My biggest concern is that there are almost NO entries to the current FP. Until that changes we should not divide the class.

Re: New formula class rules change proposal
i have been watching this post from the start and trying to stay out of it . i under stand what some people are saying about not wanting to split the class . but i still think it should ! i know there are not alot of cars to run in this class .but if i were looking at the class for the first time to run a car with comscc and i owned a FF or F500 i would NOT come to comscc and run my car knowing full well that i'm going to be so out classed that i would not have a snow balls chance in HELL to win or even place . i think over time more open wheel cars would come back if people started finding out that they can win , place or show in there class . i for one don't know how much i will be running next year with comscc just becouse my car is so out classed in the class it has to run in . i am thinking about doing a car just for comscc racing . but and it a big but ?do i want to spend money on a car just for comscc racing when com does most of there racing at only one track and only 7 races this past year ???? i went racing or did track days almost every week this past season . i had the worst finishes with comscc just becouse of the way cars are classed .

Re: New formula class rules change proposal
If you ran a Prius in Formula class the first 4 COM events this year, you would have taken first place 4 times.Probably enough points to win the championship for the year in the class.Any one could have done this.I'm glad no one did.. When you sign up to run COM,it clearly says (somewhere ..) your entry into a class does NOT guarantee you will be competitive in that class. It really is up to the individual to find a place where they are comfortable running by buying/building the proper race car for a class. If you need to win,you had better buy/build a fast car for that class, attend as many events as possible, learn to drive that car well, and hope someone else does does not do a better job at it than you.

Untrue. The FP Class champ for the year is Jonathan in his F440962porsche wrote: i know there are not alot of cars to run in this class .but if i were looking at the class for the first time to run a car with comscc and i owned a FF or F500 i would NOT come to comscc and run my car knowing full well that i'm going to be so out classed that i would not have a snow balls chance in HELL to win or even place . .

Re: New formula class rules change proposal
jonathan only won the class champ becouse untill the last race of the year he was the only one in that class . i was thinking of running my 944 in that class too . but i'm not that kind of person to cherry pick when it comes to racing !!!! how can you give yourself the old (that a boy) when you cheat or cherry pick ?? comscc is a racing club right ? that is what the time trails are . i like competition that is why i love racing . in no way would i want to race in a class all by my self . but some thing needs to be done about the classing of cars . in the class i race in with comscc my stock 8V 944 has no chance of winning the only way i do as good as i do is from my driving . when i went to VIR this year a frend that races in ALMS GT2 class took my 944 out on the track and his times were about the same as mine . some of the best races i have had i did not win rather me and the other drivers swapped places during the hole race and i came in 2nd . now think about this i could go out and spend 15k on a porsche 968 build it to comscc SPC rules and be a front runner . but now why would i do that just for comscc when my 944 in other time trail racing organizations the car is a front runner in its class . so it comes right back to car classing . if i were in jonathan shoes . i would not be beating my chest telling every one that i 'm the class champ ! O how meny people were in your class ? what i would like to see from comscc is a good real down to earth classing of cars in all classes . so we would have much better racing !and not taking the ez way out classing cars putting a f500 with a full down force car with 3 time the hp . or a bone stock 944 with a gutted int. and stick it in with cars that have built motors some add on down force and racing suspension . or wate ! i will change this car for com rules and when it will make my car out classed in 6 of the other 8 clubs i run with . or do i just go do more racing with other clubs . and if another club has a race on the same day that comscc does just blow off com ?

Re: New formula class rules change proposal
Choosing the proper equipment is one requirement of a winner, just as much as building the skills to drive the car. If you need to win,you must want to be the best. That is the simple truth. You will make sacrifices to obtain those goals. Or not. You can make anything happen IF you really need to. So,save your money, practice your driving skills with what you have...and build/buy/modify what you need to win,in the class you choose.Don't lose sight of the fun factor or you may as well be on rt128 during rush hour.

Re: New formula class rules change proposal
if you just want the fun factor there are many clubs that do DE & test an tune days . i joind comscc to race becouse its a racing club! so yep its apparent your not getting what i'm saying .that last post here is just taking the ez way out ! in no way will people spend thousends of dollars to build a car to race with a club that only does 7 races a year and mostly at one track . its time for the BOD to start looking at other clubs like NASA and EMRA to see why there classing rule work and why they work better ! if you don't want to compete thats fine but i do and i would like it to be on an equal playing fiald . you have made it clear you don't want to race you just want to drive .

Re: New formula class rules change proposal
If you want to race others on an equal level, you will have to race in a Spec class, where there are very strict rules and regulations as to what is allowed on cars. The competiton is very close and driver skill is paramount. For COM to adapt very strict Spec rules for every class would eliminate 95% of the cars that run at COM,and I am sure would still not satisfy everyone. It appears to me COM has been trying to keep classes updated and fair as the need arises, however it will be impossible to please all of the people all of the time. Maybe you should propose a Spec Porsche 944 class? If there is support,I am sure it would be approved.
