Is my SA2000 helmet good for 2010?

According to my quick research, the sa2010 helmets will not be available until Oct 2010, one year later than the m2010. Nate proposed a rules change to dissallow the 2000 helmets. Someone should suggest allowing 2000 the helmets to be legal until the 2010 replacement is available.

I just bought a new helmut for the last event. These are pretty good helmuts these days, maybe it would make sense to check the mfg. data and just disallow ones more then some number of years old (like 5)?

I believe it will be determine @ the next meeting as there are two rule proposals put forth: one that disallows them and one that expressly says they're good through 2010 season.

I sure hope they decide to allow them for one more year! My Nomex thongs are SA2000 rated but those are a lot cheaper to replace, plus I wouldn't mind going up one size on those anyways before going through tech! I hope whoever it is that wants them disallowed doesn't sell helmets for a job, would definitely be considered a conflict of interest! It's also kind of crazy that I can go online and buy a sa2005 open face helmet for $149.00 and that would be deemed safer than my sa2000 $750.00 MQ helmet that doesn't have a nick or scratch on it. I don't want to go aout and spend another $650.00 for a sa2005 helmet, then another $700 for paint only for it to be disallowed in 5 years. Now if I knew it was good for 9-10 years I would. Remember, this is just a sports car club, not Nascar.
